The assumption is being made that they CAN bring that viewing. The BTN will still have to negotiate itself into those markets..and Rutgers is not the Yankees. The move doesn't come without risk although the powers that be obviously think that they can make this happen.
The B10 will be paid for the # of eyeballs in the viewing area... and that the B10 brand will bring those eyeballs... the package will be immense...

NY is the #1 DMA in the USA.. plus MD/DC is #8
major coup for BTN.. huge

Columbus/Cleveland/Akron COMBINED is 2.4 million HH
NY is 7.4 million
DC is 2.4 million

Bigger than that. The Dc-Baltimore-NOVA metroplex is 8.9 million people. Tons of basketball talent down here.

Plus Baltimore, I'd have to imagine.

Another reason why I don't think Atlanta and Georgia Tech aren't off the table (if Delany is looking to make inroads in new markets, both TV and recruiting).

But really, there are more Georgia fans than Tech fans in ATL.

Number of fans doesn't matter. It's TV sets in the viewing area.

"Penn State has been fundamentally changing the balance of power in cfb for the last 20 years." - 91Joe95

What does that even mean? I mean, to me it means that a once power team in college football is now circling the drain, but I can't imagine how that statement can be interpreted positively for them.

What's strange is that if you read the New York Times article from last year that analyzed the number of fans each team has, GT is way above UGA. Like 600,000 fans more. It shocked me, frankly.

In case anyone cares, PurpleBookCat has been weighing in on Wildcat Report. I enjoyed his perspective during the last round of realignment...

Two days ago, he said that there was nothing to the Maryland and Rutgers rumors. Now he is trying to sell the tired schtick about Texas wanting to join the B1G.
