Agree about FSU getting the ball rolling again. Ga Tech would get them huge exposure in the middle of SEC country. I would love that.

Also on the wish-list would be NC State. Neither Duke nor UNC would ever leave the ACC but NC State (trying to become a member of AAU - President was formerly at Purdue) would help bring us the Carolina market. Keep in mind that this is about expanding our footprint (TV $ for BTN) while factoring in high quality research and athletics. NC State wouldn't need to have a huge following on their own (although it certainly wouldn't hurt). With the most alumni in of any conference, there are at least a couple hundred thousand Big Ten alumni and fans in the Carolina's.

As for Iowa State, I don't see what they add.

Unfortunately I don't think you get NC State without UNC... to much politics involved .. one is the state funded engineering school .. one is the state funded liberal arts school... don't think they'll be split up.

Add: Maryland, VaTech, NC State, and GaTech
note: let ND disappear
.

We're the Big Ten. Why should we settle for the second best options in VA and NC? Besides, none of the three NC schools will leave the others imo.

For me, the ideal is Maryland, UVA, BC and Notre Dame. I don't see the former two leaving unless the ACC is through as a viable entity.

If we do leave ND behind, then we damn well better make sure that we and the B12 destroy the ACC so that they don't have an option there.

Agree that Pitt****>Iowa State (there really is nothing out West of interest).

Texas will never happen....and probably shouldn't.

Fair point but is it UNC-NC State attached or UNC-Duke? Either way I can't see them turning down that duo.

Personally, I would prefer UVA over Va Tech.

Duke is private... but in terms of Bball they are attached... likely all 3 are attached because of political concerns much like VaTech & UVA...

But from a funding standpoint UNC-NCSU are attached at the hip so ... who the hell knows at this point..

I don't want VaTech at all, and I could see the Virginia legislature getting involved and trying to force UVA to take little sister along.

Oh, here we go again...

I don't see VA and VaTech getting split up. You either take both or neither.

I love how since taking Nebraska, we've sat back and watched the mayhem continue. Delaney will pounce when the time is right. We know from previous experience we have our sights set on ND. I'd be really interested as to who he would have his sights set on from the ACC, if the Big XII were to finally break the ACC stronghold.

I can't decide which of these teams are the best fit for the B1G without seeing pictures of the cheerleaders.

This.

[This applies to the talk about UNC and NC ST as well.]

If I'm not mistaken, everyone thought the Texas legislature would attempt to keep Texas and Texas A&M together and as far as I know that never happened during the move to the SEC- correct?

there were threats... but remember the Gov & his cronies are all A&M grads and were all for the SEC push

It seems as though the political dynamic changed a bit down there. I still think UT would not have been allowed to "abandon" aggy for the B10 or P10 had aggy wanted to follow--particularly with a red ass, old army, jizz-jarring former milkman in the Governor's mansion. When aggy willingly wanted to go off on their own, it became a different animal. Obviously, nobody is going to force UT to follow aggy to the SEC. At the same time, UT seems to be quite content to rid themselves of aggy, so they didn't flex any political muscle to force them into staying.

What is going to be interesting is if in three--or five or ten--years, aggy gets tired of continually having an
SEC! plunger broken off in their ass and wants to come back. That'll be a show.

NC State is part of The University of North Carolina System. There is a single Board of Governors that is in charge of all 16 constituent institutions within the UNC system. NC State has a 13 member Board of Trustees. Eight of those members are selected by the UNC Board of Governors.

Feel free to draw your own conclusion as to how free NCSU is to make decisions independent of UNC.

I see conference expansion to 16 or more as inevitable.
I see Big Ten conference expansion beyond the current 12 as unlikely. There just aren't any remaining attractive potential members. The fact people have thrown out schools like Iowa State (WTF?) evidences that.

The only thing that would change my mind about this is if Notre Dame or Tejas were to display interest. They're the only teams out there that would enhance the per-school value of the B1G, and per-school value is what this game is all about.

This.
Hello, I went to UVA for grad school, and I can say that this is absolutely not the case. Virginia and Virginia Tech have very little loyalty to each other. Virginia Tech already tried to bolt to the SEC without UVA.

It was only last minute that UVA pulled some strings to get VaTech into the ACC anyway. They've only been in a conference together for a few years.

UVA is an absolute prize, academics and research wise. There is no reason to take VaTech, although there is a guy who works at the speedway on the corner of Dempsey and Westerville roads that is a grad from that school, and who might be interested in watching the Hokies play in Columbus.
