That must be the new simple revised form.

As Texas A&M is set to make it official that they will join the SEC, word has spread about the official conference application that the Aggies need to fill out before word can be made official that they are the newest member of the conference.

Here are some official questions obtained from the SEC application:

Does your backup quarterback have bangs?
Is Tobacco a top 5 industry in your city?
Do your fans cheer when USC loses?
To Catch a Predator? Solid Journalism or Unfair Entrapment?
You?re better than Vanderbilt, right?
In the grand scheme of things how important are academics to your university? (be honest)
For your fans is NASCAR the 2nd highest rated sport behind football?
Has your school ever violated and/or been investigated by the NCAA?
Was your state forcibly integrated?
Does your school sell camouflage gear with the school logo on it?
Has a head coach ever left your university only to come back and coach your rival?
Is ?Sherman? considered a curse word?
Have you ever won a recruiting national championship?
Do you want to play for all the Tostitos?
Is there a Waffle House within walking distance of your football stadium?
Has Paul Finebaum ever interviewed your Head Coach?s mom?
Did Steve Spurrier give a BS excuse for dropping 60 on you in the 90s?
Do you replace the ?all? in football with an ?aww??
Have you ever used ?ya?ll? or ?[censored]-ant? during a school debate?
Has one of your fans ever poisoned or killed something your rival holds dear?
Is your fan base composed of extraordinarily high numbers of non-alums?
How many pieces of football related statuary are on campus?
Is there a cow pasture within walking distance to your football stadium?
How many times have you beaten Ohio State in a BCS Bowl?
Are you comfortable with over-signing?
How close is the nearest Chick-fil-A?
Have you ever had an RC Coal and a moon pie?
Has Charles Robinson visited your campus within the last 6 months?
What year did your state secede from the union?
Is there such a thing as instant grits?
Does your fan base wear Jorts?
Did you have to remove racist references from your state song or flag?
Can you purchase fishing bait and liquor at the same store in your city?
Are you okay with shouting ?SEC? after your team beats a team from another conference or SEC division?
Has Houston Nutt ever been linked to a job opening at your school?

Big 12 poised to replace Beebe

The Big 12 is poised to replace commissioner Dan Beebe with former Big Eight commissioner Chuck Neinas, CBSSports.com has learned. The Big 12 is poised to replace commissioner Dan Beebe with former Big Eight commissioner Chuck Neinas, CBSSports.com has learned.

One highly placed source said the conference was moving quickly to replace Beebe who had been under fire from some conference members after recent instability within the league. Neinas, currently a well-known college consultant, is expected to be named interim commissioner.

The official word could come as soon as Thursday when the Big 12 presidents meet by conference call to discuss how to move forward. Based on the news of Wednesday, the embattled league apparently will continue with nine schools while seeking additional members.

This is why nobody wants to deal with the mess that UT brings to the table...

Texas lawmakers to UT: Stay in the Big 12 and let TCU join

A group of Texas lawmakers sent a letter to University of Texas officials this week with one simple message: stay in the Big 12.

They also suggest TCU and the Big East should join.

The addition of TCU would restore the nostalgia of the old Southwest Conference should the Big 12 merge with the Big East, according to the letter.

13 Texas state representatives and Texas Senator Brian Birdwell (R-Granbury) signed the letter addressed to the UT Board of Regents, President William Powers and Athletic Director DeLoss Dodds.

There's a .pdf of the actual letter at the link.

Anfd that's exactly how the mess with Texas first started law makers trying to make sure all their little schools get a piece of the pie. It's annoying. I'm glad we don't have to take care of cinci, kent state, miami, akron, toledo and ohio the way that law makers seem to think texas should take care of all it's inner state schools.

Purple Book Cat added some rumor fodder. Apparently UT has provided a letter of intent to the Big Ten. Here are the terms:

- the University of Texas will in good faith conduct discussions with the Big Ten conference and no other conference related to its post-2012 conference affiliation
- the Big Ten will not invite any other institution to join the conference without the prior approval of Texas
- before joining the Big Ten, Texas will have assurances that it can schedule four non-Big Ten conference football games per season
- the requirement that any final arrangement be designed to increased revenues among all Big Ten conference schools, with no discrepancies in distributions unrelated to television network distributions among conference institutions
- Texas will become a full CIC member
- Texas and the Big Ten will jointly approve any third party media arrangements related to Texas athletics moving forward
- the goal that Texas participates as a full member of the conference beginning in the fall of 2014

Why should I care about anything that does not benefit Ohio State?

I'm not one to tell someone what they should or shouldn't do, but if we all adopted this attitude we'd be Texas and the Big Ten would be the Big XII. This just isn't the culture of the Big Ten. We do care about what benefits our member schools and our conference in general.

I have been one to put more faith in what PBC reports (not really taking him at face value, but as an inside view of what the B1G offices have been thinking). But this seems far fetch to even me.

#1 - Why even post this? I am talking more about the details than anything else. If PBC just said that while the Big 12 has been saved for now, Texas has agreed if things fall apart again they will come to the B1G, I would have put more faith in what he posted. But the details... just seem way off to me.

Texas' intentions with regard to the Big Ten will remain without official announcements until a specific group of universities, including the current Texas' Big XII schools, solidify their own conference affiliation status. Neither the Big Ten nor Texas wishes to be seen as the primary driving force in conference realignment.

#2 - The above seems like a REALLY big out clause to me. Basically it sounds to me that IF the Big 12 fails again, THEN AND ONLY THEN would Texas come to the B1G, and then only if the former Big 12 members (ie read Tech problem) finds a soft landing, THEN AND ONLY THEN would Texas think about going to the B1G.

#3 - Is it just me, or does this also cover if Texas has to go independent? Like for them to get cover from the Texas legislature they go independent for a few seasons then join the B1G?

#4 - Texas getting veto power to prevent the B1G from expanding? Some can complain about this, but I won't. I am certain the B1G doesn't plan on expanding at all til 2014 anyway. So don't read into that any further.

Just crazy man... and really the only way this can be proved, is if Texas really digs in their heels in putting the Big 12 back together. Like if they don't cave on any demands and threatens Independence. Because the end game won't be proven til 2014. Or is that the beauty with PBC's post. By the time he is proven right or wrong, most will totally forget about all of this stuff. So until then, people can put their faith in what PBC posted, or just make fun of it. Or, be smart and just file it away as more conference expansion theories and fun message board fodder.

I'm not necessarily putting much credence in this most recent posing by the Northwestern "insider." But those who are saying, "We don't want Texas" are missing the boat. Any conference would want Texas if the conditions were right. An Jim Delany will make sure that conditions are right, whether Texas comes aboard or not.

What is the approval process in the B1G now. What was the approval process when Nebraska joined?

I'm starting to think PBC writes horoscopes for a living. And you're right, this seems contradictory to what is being reported in the media about the Big XII. The only line in the sand UT appears to be drawing now is with LHN.

Just a theory, if we're supposing there is truth to this post, UT is leaving the door open to either (A) try to repair the Big XII so they can leave when it is healthy and not cause such a stink or (B) if Missouri blows all of this up by going to the SEC too they want a home. Frank the Tank's most recent post was excellent in that he has likened the Big XII to a maximum security prison and UT has the key. Nobody, apart from A&M (and that is even in limbo) can escape. For that reason, I think the Big XII is impossible to salvage. Oklahoma State has no hope but to latch on to Oklahoma. And nobody wants Oklahoma and their little sister. Oklahoma realizes now they are stuck in the Big XII unless they can package themselves with UT. But what does UT gain by staying with them?

Frank also made some interesting comments about the Big East luring in service academies. If they can land all 3, they have some political clout. The only way we land Notre Dame is if the Big East blows up. Even if those guys are small, they can save that conference.

before joining the Big Ten, Texas will have assurances that it can schedule four non-Big Ten conference football games per season

I've got this one covered for Delany, even with his desired 9-game B1G conference schedule.

Since a 13-game schedule is allowed for teams that play at Hawaii, Texas "can schedule four non-Big Ten conference football games per season". If they don't play at Hawaii, it's not the Big Ten's 9-game conference schedule that prevented them from playing 4 other games.

I'm thinking like a lawyer - I think I've spent too much time reading somebody's "walls of words".

What they are saying is that the Big Ten can't go inviting Missouri or Notre Dame or anyone else for that matter--even if UT hasn't joined yet--without clearing it with them first.

Basically, UT is saying we won't talk to anyone else if you don't.

Which is kind of rhetorical because they've talked to the only other two they would have considered already and it obviously didn't work out (ACC, Pac-12).
