If Missouri flies off to the SEC, expect Texas to be in the B1G eventually. Maybe even Oklahoma; although one might scoff at their academics (and many programs are mediocre at best), some programs are excellent at the graduate level.

I disagree with the bolded above, mainly because of this:

The Pac-12 wasn't going to dismiss a possible pod-system of four four-team subdivisions for scheduling purposes, but wouldn't agree to giving Texas favored treatment. Texas has its own network, the Longhorn Network, which is operated by ESPN. If Texas supported equal revenue sharing, then that would have meant more regional networks for the Pac-12 and even more money. But Texas wasn't willing to do that, according to the source.

They absolutely will not give up the Longhorn Network cash, and I think Delaney and the rest of the Big Ten will make the same decision as the Pac-12 did as a result. Which is why I've said all along that I think Texas will be an independent eventually.

So to summarize the last week's worth of posts:

  • Some dude on a Northwestern board makes some claims, some on BP take it as gospel
  • Others on BP say that people who believe the Northwestern poster are rubes, claim something else will happen
  • Chip Brown makes his own set of claims, and then another set of claims that are practically the opposite of that
  • None of the above parties are right about anything

Hmmm... well the Big12 still has to do something, especially if loses Mizzou, Big East still has no stability... and I still think Delaney would take some "home runs" if he can get them... the B1G has never been in a rush to make moves just because it had to, but just because something hasn't happened yet, does not mean nothing will .... JMHO

aTm to the SEC, Mobilehoma ( thanks ShaggyBevo) and Okie-lite stay in the Big XII and they add BYU.

That's looking pretty plausible at this point.

What a dysfunctional family, that Big XII. I bet their next conference meeting is a real hoot.

What I gather from the current situation:

The Big East is doomed.

The Big XII has had a stay of execution for a couple of reasons: Pac-12 wants none of them, Missouri hasn't really been invited, and it doesn't look like OU has a home with their little sister.

The Big Ten is not going to do anything at all.

Mergers are all of the rage.

What a lot of you don't realize is being a strong competitor in football alone is not going to get you an invite. The Big Ten and SEC are successful for a very specific reason: they haven't made crappy investments.

Every team that these conferences will pursue is going to add revenue to the conference.

TCU is great in football, but they are awfully irrelevent when it comes to producing revenue. Why add teams if it takes away from the share of the teams already in the conference? Any addition should add to the conference.

Imo in the end the Pac 12 voted for geography, tradition and some level of academic honesty. Picking up Colorado wasn't without some wise thought as to the fact that it was a school with a solid academic rep, second only to Austin in the Big 12, and without the dark side of UT economics.

Texas has now held 3 conferences hostage and in the end I'm recalling Columbus Penitentiary resident O.Henry's Ransom of Red Chief in which the kidnappers discover that the parents are happy to let them keep their ADD child for a while.

There is such a thing as too greedy.

I just can't believe any real program would move to either the B12 or Big East. The B12 is a disaster in the making and there is no way you can convince me that they are going to survive long term. If a school agrees to join the B12 knowing full well that it could last 1, 2...maybe 3 years, they would be fools and shouldn't be running a major university. BYU would be absolutely ignorant to join the B12. THe short term gain for ANY team is not worth what will happen long term. No one in that conference trusts anyone else. That will continue to erode what little is left and the conference will go away. I think they may survive until 2014-2015. Then all bets are off.

If this happens, I hope they added 2 schools - OU and Notre Dame. It's obvious what kind of power ND wields, but with OU being the #1 team in the nation....and you'd be able to move Michigan to the other division so there isn't a cross division game each year with tOSU and TSUN.

So, here'd be your divisions:

Legends:
Minnesota
Northwestern
Iowa
Nebraska
Sparty
OU
Wisconsin

Leaders:
Domers
TSUN
tOSU
Fighting Zookers
Purdue
Indiana
The Fighting Handrails
