There's literally no way that it could happen from a B1G network perspective, but from a CIC perspective, taking on UNC, UVa and UT would be a major academic coup for the B1G... anways, nothing to see here, carry on...

Academics may be driving the bus in the Big Ten, but it's not driving the bus anywhere else. I think that point is clear now.

But it does add more viewership from the abundance of Notre Dame fans in that area of the country. Believe me, I, in no way, believe Rutgers is an ideal fit, but I also don't think they bring absolutely nothing to the table.

Agree, they have a hockey team.

True, true...

Anyways, I'm bored at work today, but just stumbled upon ShaggyBevos dedidcated forum to expansion talks... I'm guessing this is a jackpot moment...

What could Texas possibly offer the Big 10 that would compensate for...well, for being Texas?

Born in Nebraska, grew up in Illinois/Wisconsin. I guarantee there is a regional distaste for you guys. Added on top of that is the train wreck/ gay midget jello wrestling /clusterfuck / trailer trash brawl that is currently called the Big 12 with a side order of lawsuits to go, and it won't happen...EVER...plus the Unicorn* network

Shit, and you guys say the Aggies are delusional? You're institutional Siamese twins, conjoined in some weird 69er fashion. Neither will survive the present operation to separate.

The problem with Mizzou is I don't think they bring in enough money to the B1G to counter balance the equal revenue sharing they will take out. Will the addition of Mizzou mean less profits for the other schools? I think it will. I think the only two teams that would not would be Texas and Notre Dame. Both are national brands while Mizzou is regional for a region that the B1G is already in.
Agree completely but in look at it as taking a bit of a loss for being "more solidifed" (idk if that's even a word...but you get the point),

Again, my point was only to say that because of geographic location Mizzou is an interesting option. Not the best fit for the B1G's focus on expanding the footprint.

I still think Vandy could be a wild card. Again just throwing it out there because I am bored.

Assuming ND joins (eventually) they can help take care of the NE and the catholic population.

Looking to the west, the only real options are Oklahoma, Okie State, Mizzou, Kansas, Kansas State, and Iowa State and none of them would truly expand the footprint. Oklahoma has the best chance but it won't happen.

Looking to the South (SEC territory) there are a few options in play. I like the idea of adding an academic institution like Vandy. Also keep in mind how much that would hurt the SEC in terms of losing their #1 academic institution (by a long shot). Vandy does not have a huge athletic presence but the B1G brand is large enough that there will be fans, alumni, etc. currently living in TN, KY, etc to add $ to the pot.

The Carolinas are growing at an exponential rate. Adding a presence down there would also help to expand the brand.

Finally, I have been pushing GT and the Atlanta idea for a while now for the same reason.

Plain and simple Delaney is smart enough to have a plan. It isn't just what adding a school can bring in location, alumni following, research $, TV Viewership, etc. It is a combination of all of those. There are approximately 4.5 million living alumni from the 12 schools. Combine those with the people who just cheer for one of the B1G teams and we are talking about a huge number.

A guy named Big10Husker got this in before being banned.

We got unemployment at under 5% in Nebraska. What you got?

We have a balanced state budget here in Nebraska What you got?

We get rain. What you got?

We play football in a viable conference. What you got?

I saw the Nebraska game on TV last week. What you got?

Now be quiet, or Warren Buffet will come down there and buy your state and give it to the Mexicans. Then you'll all be playing soccer.

I don't want to deify the man, but I'd bet he's got several. Everything points to the superconferences happening for sure, he's probably got various scenarios.

But... he only wants homeruns... just depends on what he thinks is a homerun.

Our fanbase would have to toughen up considerably for many of the road trips in the Big 10 as they would be hostile environments for Texas fans

Within the Big 10, Wisconsin, Iowa and Penn State are all considered rougher trips than Columbus and we all know sand is still being removed from vaginas after the 2005 trip to the Horseshoe

...this is getting me through a slow afternoon...
