The B1G conf has always been my vote as the name, no number... Just Big. it fits the stereotype, stadiums, revenue, enrollment, academics, and possibly "everything is bigger in Texas"

If we lose "regional" and AAU/CIC schools (ND, Pitt, Syracuse) w/o landing a big name (Rutgers/Mizzou are not big names), then the conference has significantly dropped the ball... and the "ESPN against the BTN" narrative will go defcon eleventy.

FWIW neither ND nor Syracuse are AAU members & both are significantly behind the (B1G) curve when it comes to research (the CIC).

Interesting development. Could pave the way for Kansas and K-State to the Big East, where basketball is king. I think the ACC is more consistent with where Pitt and Syracuse would like to be from an academic standpoint as well as football.

The BTN is the only network that promises to give Tejas as much revenue as they could get from the LHN - plus it's an established brand. I think early disappointing returns from the LHN will get the 'Horns thinking maybe they made a mistake there, and that the Big Money Conference (our new name; like it?) is the best place for them.

FWIW ESPiN is paying $300 mill to tejas over the next umpteen years.. so right now the only people disappointed are ESPiN... Tejas is getting the money no matter what

This is a smart move on the part of the ACC, since they were potential prey of both the SEC and the B1G. Grabbing Syracuse & Pitt, plus raising the exit penalty from $11M to $20M deters B1G expansion to the east. Almost every target we've discussed since ~2005 is now effectively blocked (half of the targets in our current poll would now be ACC members). Schools like Maryland, Virginia, and Georgia Tech are reassured that there is no reason to leave. Very shrewd.

Don't discount the possibility that the move is in response to a pending loss of current members (FSU to SEC etc).

Iowa State, Baylor reportedly offer themselves to Big East

.../snip/...

But, is the Big East still salvageable even without Syracuse and Pitt? Word on the ESPN street ? and it should be noted that is is far from confirmed ? is that Iowa State and Baylor have reached out to the Big East if the Big 12 falls apart. Baylor has previously expressed confidence that if the Big 12 were to dissolve, that an invite from the Big East would follow.

Missouri, Kansas State, Kansas and Iowa State were reportedly in talks with the Big East last summer when the first conference realignment apocalypse-that-wasn?t fell through. The popular speculation this time around has been that the Big East would form some sort of, um, ?superconference? with the remaining members of the Big 12 ? were it to fall apart.

.../cont/...

Kind of amusing when viewed next to Baylor's God, America, Apple Pie & College Football integrity press release a few days back.

BTW - At the end of the article are links to tweets saying the Big East commissioner found out about Pitt/Cuse while watching the Maryland game & that there is no requirement for teams to notify the league if they plan to leave the conference.

That about sums up the Big East.

ACC Shocker

Most of the talk in recent weeks in the College Football world has revolved around re-alignment. Schools like Oklahoma, Texas, and Notre Dame are being mentioned in raging rumors that have them headed, depending on which rumor you’re catching, to the Big 10, Pac 12, or SEC. Many schools have already made the leap; Nebraska, Utah, TCU, Texas A&M.

But in all of the confusion, the one conference that has stayed, for the most part, quiet…. the ACC. That changed with a flurry of activity this morning.

-First, at around 8:00 eastern time, it was announced that Pittsburgh and Syracuse had applied to the conference.
-At around 9:00, it was revealed that West Virginia would be following suit today.
-But the real bomb shell was dropped at just after 10:00…. Texas and Texas Tech reportedly joined the pack this morning as well.

Official word from the conference is expected later today.

Looking for non-ESPN source, I'm sure they stole it from someone.

It's probably primary source, or rather, ESPN knows this first hand because they are orchestrating it. They seem to by trying to take control of this realignment thing by turning it into a shell game among their own partners. They'll be the big winner in this if they can keep all the major moves within the conferences that are indentured to them all while backfilling with non-AQ schools in the spots that are vacated in leagues like the Big East.

Ah good ole propaganda minster changing his tune again... Seriously we're going to believe that Tejas doesn't want to go without one of its little Leaches?

Can't wait to hear where Tejas is going next..
