During my tenure at The Ohio State University Columbus was described by students as, "The World's biggest cow town." The Sundial (the now extinct campus humor magazine) sold sweat shirts that read "Ohia State -- The Big Farm" a dig at both the ag school and Governor Jim Rhodes accent. We also took note of the skyline, the only building more than 7 or 8 stories tall was the LaVeque - Lincoln Tower, thus when approaching the city the tower stood way above everything else on the horizon and so Columbus was "The City with a Hard On." Other endearing references went along the lines of, "If God was going to give the world an enema, Columbus is where he'd stick the nozzle."

All of this will be on the final.

The dairy farms on west campus makes Columbus the largest city with a cow farm in its city limits. I.E. the world's largest cow town. The fact that this farm is next door to radio telescopes and nuclear reactors reduces the sting of the comments. I wonder what Gary Larson of the Far Side would say about a diary farm next to Nukes and Radio Telescopes...

Um an amusing anecdote is that 2 cows taken to the vet hospital got loose this year and were running around on campus next to the towers.

Similar thing happened on 71 just south of town a couple months ago. A cow in labor roaming the highway.

Nothing says "cowtown" like Columbus Clippers ring your (cow) bell.

Oh and since you guys are Cornhuskers......if you ever come to Columbus, you must visit Cornhenge.

It's an "art" exhibit in Dublin, OH (a suburb of Columbus) consisting of 6 foot tall stone corn sculptures.

LOL, that's great, will definitely put that on my list for my first visit to Columbus and The Shoe. Cornhusker love in Ohio long before we even joined the Big Ten!

Designer of Big Ten logo hopes to get call for update

Al Grivetti occasionally will wear a T-shirt emblazoned with the Big Ten logo and get approached by strangers who think they're revealing a secret about the nationally recognized emblem.
More than once, he has been told about the inconspicuous "11'' that is hidden in the negative or white space among the letters.
"I might say, 'Well, yeah, I did see that in there,' " Grivetti said. "With some people I'll explain the background. That's what I think is fun about the (logo) ? there's a little surprise in there."
It's a surprise that Grivetti created more than 20 years ago when the Big Ten added Penn State, giving it 11 schools, and turned to a group at Northern Illinois University to update its image.

Grivetti was paid for his work but said, "It wasn't anything substantial."
At the time, he gave the league designs that also included the Nos. 12, 13 and 14 to show how it could be done, if needed.
Grivetti didn't get a call when the Big Ten and Fox Cable Networks created a new logo for the Big Ten Network. However, he plans to contact the conference to see if the relationship can resume.
"I've got to call the Big Ten," he said, "and let them know I'm still alive."
