Thats crazy of ESPN... but in the end it saves them money probably from having to big for super conferences business.... and it wouldn't surprise me if its true.

That was some of the speculation I heard on the radio... I'd love to see the math that was done around that reasoning at Bristol

So a ESPN supported network just for the Longhorns???

Just a guess, but I'd say that ESPN is only supporting a UT network by contractually agreeing to it. I don't think they'd support the UT network financially themselves, but, hey, why the hell not? It's already a stupid deal, why not make it really, really stupid?

If the ESPN/Bevo Network thing is true - well, yeah, as 'Busnative said somewhere between hilarious and infuriating.

Basically, the nation's largest entertainment television network essentially propping up a collegiate athletic conference.

Unbelievable.

I agree, especially since they already own six or seven bowl games (can' remember the actual number).

But, is that significantly different than the Big Ten Network's affiliation with Fox Sports?

Anybody who has recently restated that conference expansion is a waste without Texas... care to reconsider?

I originally wanted TX, but if this retooled BigXII happens I think the BigTen ended up pulling a major coup to get Nebraska into the fold. Great get for us and the whole 'expansionpalooza' has exposed the 'horns manipulative ways and has also revealed the rest of the BigXII as hangers-on.

If the BigXII is actually going to "stay together for the kids", with all the mayhem that's already ensued, when the (current) dust settles we're looking at basically 1 addition for the Pac-10 (Colorado), MWC (Boise State), and BigTen (Nebraska). This plays PERFECTLY into Delaney's hands, as the timeline for expansion can slow down again and people can re-asses their current situations until things become clearer.

It's no surprise to me that Delaney and Slive are looking like the geniuses in all of this while Scott and Beebe are looking like the dopes. The Pac-10 and BigXII are looking for ANYTHING to save their asses while the SEC and BigTen are sitting pretty at the top.
In an interesting twist... just stated on Galloway & Co. (ESPN Dallas) that ESPN may be the network throwing money in to save the B12 (and give UT its own network)... if so, that's somewhere between hilarious and infuriating... in a deal where UT, OU and aTm each get $20-$25 million and other schools get ~$14 million... anyways, just typing what they're saying (the dudes on the radio are pissed)
FWIW - they were saying Fox, then ESPN, they're not sure, but saying its one of the two...

to also clarify, the speculation is $25 for UT, ~$20 for aTm and OU and then $14-$17 for the other 7 schools... thats $163-$184 million total for some network

Texas staying in Big 12 - The Denver Post

Earlier in the day, a source close to the Pac-10's expansion negotiations told The Denver Post today that Texas is insisting on better revenue sharing and its own network.

"In the 11th hour, after months of telling us they understand the TV rights, they're trying to pull a fast one on the verge of sealing the deal in the regents meeting," the source said. "They want a better revenue sharing deal and their own network. Those were points of principle. (The Pac-10) wants to treat everyone fairly. It's been that way for months of discussions."
