Things are moving fast

1) TMZ says OKSU to the Pac-11 is a done deal.

2) Dallas News says the meeting between TX/aTm does NOT include TTech or Baylor.

3) Purple Book Cat on NW Rivals seems to hint that the Big Ten schools are forming blocs both for and against TTech inclusion (see 10:04am and 11:51am).

Reading between the lines, it sounds like the Pac-10 is happy that they picked up two schools and made it to 12 and TX/aTm could be plotting an exit strategy.

Also: Don't forget basketball, and remember Delaney is looking 50 years into the future. I bet Rutgers and Maryland and Syracuse call all not only regain form but threaten for titles, etc. more than some "powers" that exist today do. . .

Not to mention we need some teams to beat up on. How would you feel if you were say Purdue or Michigan State and we only added powerhouses? I love this combo if it happens, personally. For all sports (Directors cup).

This will be so [censored]ing funny if ... Texas and A&M ditch them for the Big Ten.
It's pretty clear that right now, a huge power struggle has begun between DeLoss Dodds (UT's AD) and William Powers (its President). If Powers had his way, we'd see Tejas as the next member of Big Ten West. Interesting to see this play out.

If Aggie says "We don't need UT any more, we're going SEC" then does that mean the legislature's opinion is no longer in play? I'm not sure how Tech and Baylor are thought about.

I think free of Aggie, UT would take Big 10 membership almost immediately. I also think the Big 10 could live with Aggie, frankly. Not so with Tech or Baylor.

Adding Nebby, Texas and ND (I have to think these two are the "end game")... you can add any other two teams and it's pure WIN I think.

4 top acad - Rutgers, Syracuse, Maryland, Notre Dame
2 top fball - Nebraska, Notre Dame
3 top bball - Notre Dame, Syracuse, Maryland
3 top $$$$ - Rutgers, Maryland, Notre Dame

That's a pretty well rounded list and preserves the Big Ten as a top-2 athletic conference with far more financial upside than any other.

Syracuse can always be subbed out as well, especially if Hook Em can wrestle free.

Wait, I've gotta follow TMZ on expansion now? Fuck that.

I'm not getting shit done here at the office. :(

I believe between Ken Starr's sermon that fell upon deaf ears, the Pac 10 thumbing its nose at Baylor and inviting CU anyway, and the general derision and hate-mail directed at the Baylor degree holding politco (and the 14 politicians names that he cc:ed in the email that wound up on the net) the members of the Texas legislature are on notice: Nobody wants your Tier 3 institutions.

It sure is refreshing to see the importance placed upon academics in a culture (driven by media & fans) that often reduces its importance to eligibility for NC runs.

Not so fast. They're still all about taking Oklahoma State and Texas Tech. For the PAC-10 it's not about academics, it's about religious affiliation or their preferred lack thereof.

I still don't see how going to the PAC 10 is good for any team in the central time zone. There's a claim of "east coast" bias for a reason.. that's where the TVs are.

I certainly understand why the Pac 10 wants (needs) Texas and OU, and why they'd be willing to sell their souls to get them.. but, I just don't see any incentive for Texas to go West.

Incidentally, apparently OU is now on record as saying they'll follow UT Nebby Scout Link

Wouldn't be so sure about that OU.

Or you could look at it the other way and when institutions academic reputation are at stake on a macro level, suddenly academics come into the college football discussion, but if they had their druthers, players shouldn't be held to the same standard as students because they weren't brought to the university for education purposes
