Americans Floyd Landis (Tour De France) and Tiger Woods (British Open) had great wins in Europe Sunday. Which victory was your favorite?

I'm not a particularly huge fan of either sport, but Landis was a virtual unknown prior to this year's race. Tiger is the biggest name in golfing and is always the odds-on favorite to win.

The rest of the world had to figure that the USA's domination in cycling was over when Lance retired. So, I've gotta go with Landis' win.

Landis.

To even finish the Tour De France at all is an incredible test of endurance. I think a lot of casual viewers underestimate the difficulty of riding upwards of 2000 miles in fewer than three weeks, especially with the Tour terrain.

That Landis finished the Tour with a bum-hip is an achievement. That he actually won is even more remarkable a story than Armstrong having battled back from cancer.

I'll go with Tiger, just because cycling seems a little tainted to me right now.

But, Tiger doesn't really seemed to be solely associated witht he U.S.A. He's an international figure and celebrity. His win is probably seen more as a victory for Tiger, whereas an unknown like Landis... his victory is probably more associated with the America.

But I still go with Tiger. He's the most dominating athlete of my generation, and each win seems more and more impressive.

Good poll idea. I just posted this in the British Open thread, before I made it to the OD today.

Tiger got a lot more coverage than Floyd Landis did over the last few days, which is an real injustice. Landis, after almost 3 weeks of riding a bike over 2,000 miles, gained about 6 minutes on the best bike riders in the world, by riding in a breakaway by himself for over 80 miles on Thursday. That was on the third straight day of riding in the Alps, and the day after he ran out of gas on the last climb, seemingly ending his chances to win. The magnitude of his comeback was truly of epic proportions, one of the best I can recall in any sporting event.<!-- / message --><!-- sig -->

I have to go with Tiger. After a resurgent Els played him stroke for stroke in the third round, Tiger comes back with a big win in the fourth round. I really wanted Ernie to win, but Tiger's a favorite as well.

Landis win also was incredible, especially after the collapse picking up eight minutes. It was a very tough choice, both men showed a lot of guts!

I think it's actually pretty close. It's pretty impressive for Tiger to brush off a tough loss, in his father's death, and not making the U.S. Open cut; to winning the British Open.

Then, on the other hand, Landis established himself as the next American to beat in the Tour de France, which is monumental, due to the fact that Lance retired, and the American tradition of victory has still carried on.

I will say this is probably Tiger's second most Major win, next to the Britsh Open, where he blew everyone away (I can't remember which year that was, though).

I'm going to give Tiger the nod, but it's really close.

Tiger only b/c a lot of the Tour de France favorites were banned prior to the Tour starting thus having Landis defeat a depleted field.

Have to say that doing it with a bad hip is amazing.

Or not, considering Landis will probably have hip replacement surgery and may not be able to ride again, most certainly not as early as 2007.

Do all the people voting for Tiger even know that Landis has osteonecrosis?

"It's bad, it's grinding, it's bone rubbing on bone. Sometimes it's a sharp pain. When I pedal and walk, it comes and goes, but mostly it's an ache, like an arthritis pain. It aches down my leg into my knee. The morning is the best time, it doesn't hurt too much. But when I walk it hurts, when I ride it hurts. Most of the time it doesn't keep me awake, but there are nights that it does."

If you've ever climbed a mountain on a bicycle you fully appreciate
Landis effort to fight back after a day he bonked.

"They told me I was crazy. Don't do it Floyd. It's impossible!"
"I told them, Have a Coke 'cause we're goinn!"

The stuff of LEGENDS!

To answer the question of this thread I would pick Landis hands-down.

As for Tiger being the most dominating athlete of your/my generation there are two problems with that statement 1) Golfing is not a sport, it is a game, 2) the most dominating athlete IMHO is Ricky Carmichael.

Before anyone gets made about my golf statement, I never said it was easy, just that I don't consider it a sport. As for Carmichael, he has won every motocross championship he has ever competed in and won all but two supercross championships he has competed in. He is the only person in the history of all motorsports to have an undefeated season and he has done it twice. His career has been nothing short of amazing.

That said, I agree Tiger is an amazing talent and possibly the best golfer of all time, but not the most dominating athlete by any stretch of the imagination.
