Buca di Beppo (Mouth of Joe) right next to the Arena. Great Italian food.
All right, so my girlfriend's extremely picky and critical parents are coming in for a visit in a few weeks and we're going up to Cbus (from Athens) to catch a Bluejackets game, have dinner and drinks and spend the night. The problem is that they're Italian, so unless it's pasta or a $45 steak (or Olive Garden), they hate food at restaurants and steaks are always held to the Charlie's standard (for those of you from or visiting the Tampa/Orlando area).
So to the point, I need some advice on where to take them for dinner, preferably a steak house, that will hold up to their standards. I know I've heard Kirk mention one on his radio show, but I can't remember the name.
Any suggestions? Thanks!
How about Tumbleweed? I know it's not upscale or Italian...More like a Lonestar, but they have good food. They are known for their USDA Choice steaks, but also have Mexican food and a shortage of fish. If you go for the steaks get the 9oz. filet or the Cowboy Ribeye. The 14oz. house Ribeye is good as well. The best way to get them is MediumRare.....Goodluck...
no offense, g&j, but i don't think that buckeyeflorida's parents would be all the impressed nor pleased with tumbleweed. while tumbleweed may be decent for a chain (i don't know; never been there), almost by definition buckeyeflorida's parents would be displeased with that choice.
also, usda choice, while decent, is not the highest quality. steak aficionados know what marbling is and will know the difference between usda prime and choice. no highest quality steak establishment sells choice. finally, tumbleweed has a "shortage of fish"? that doesn't sound good. they may need to re-order.

you write that you've eaten at every steakhouse in columbus, but i see no mention of morton's. i know excellent steak when i eat it (unfortunately, i know bad steak, too), and i know that morton's is always excellent. therefore, speaking for myself only, i would not give hyde park a "bar none" distinction.I'd probably disagree with the lists so far. I've eaten at every steak house in Cbus more than once. The most over-rated - definitely Clarmont. That place sucks. They have no idea how to cook a steak to order, and their customer service sucks ass. Whoever said that earlier was spot-on.
Next over-rated - Smith & Wolinsky. This place also sucks. I think there is another one somewhere, but I've only been to the one at Easton. Over-priced for sub-average food. No way I'll ever go back.
Ruth's Criss (or however you spell it) - first filet mignon I've ever had that was more fat than meat. In fact, I don't remember ever having filet that had any fat. Service also sucked.
Mitchell's - average. About what you'd expect, good food, good service.
Hyde Park - best in Cbus, bar none, and it isn't a contest. Great atmosphere, great service, best steak in the city. They also have numerous options for steak (sauce, toppings, etc.).
The Precinct - best steak place in Ohio. It's in Cincinnati, and it's Jeff Ruby's original restaurant. You don't need either a knife or teeth to eat their steak. It's devine.
I hear the one in Zanesville has cockroaches.

You are right....I used to work there...I was just trying to do a little promotion....I wouldn't want to go there either if I were from Florida but I will admit it is a good experience....It's your typical middle class restaraunt with a few scanks dropping by....The best day to go is for Margarita Monday and Wild West Wednesday for the all you can eat ribs.....In all honesty, I think their ribs are the best I've ever had....I would like to know of any better....
I went there and had the ribs one time, and it was a ripoff, it had like 5 bones on it for like $13, and they tasted like shit, and we weren't even full after dinner, we went to White Castle and picked up a bag of ten and that filled us up, and it tasted better. I like Chili's ribs the most, i also like there Chicken Crispers and their Cajun chicken pasta.
Must be the Olive Garden you are referring too...It is right beside The Weed. I heard that as well.
