Best College Player This Decade?

Tebow may be the most successful but he's hardly the greatest. Alex Smith would've killed if he went to Florida when Tebow did. Tebow's a solid athlete with a decent arm but he plays in an amazing offensive system with extremely gifted teammates.

Young, Peterson, Bush, Troy, plus others have been better players.

Why are most discussions based on "what if's"? Who's to say Alex Smith wouldn't have shit a brick playing against SEC defenses or been hurt his first game and never played another down?

I like Troy Smith a lot,but he is nowhere near this discussion.

Matt Leinart was extremely successful but there's a reason no one is mentioning him. It's because he played with ridiculous talent all around him.

Your question makes no sense. The thread topic is subjective. I can't prove what Alex Smith would've done at Florida anymore than you can prove Tebow is the best player of this decade. It's just my opinion.

I guess I would start by showing what Tebow has accomplished. Just as any other athlete being considered for that title. Maybe stats/wins/leadership? At least make something debatable. It's hard to do the same with Smith being in Florida considering it never happened. It sounds like a small attempt at downgrading someone else's accomplishments.

Jimmy Claussen. He's lying in the weeds in his Hummer limo, lulling the CFB world into a false sense of security, just waiting to throw 80 TDs next year.

Actually, I'd say Vince Young and Larry Fitzgerald were the two best I saw.

1. Tebow
2. Young
3. Peterson

All three of these guys, when in their prime, everyone knew they were going to have the ball in their hands and no one could stop them. Tebow gets the nod because of he is better throwing the ball than Young was.

Q: In regards to the Young vs Tebow argument, why so much emphasis on Tebow's Heisman(s)?

Seems silly to use a post season MVP award given to the best player on the best team pre-bowl under completely arbitrary and subjective criteria. Yes, Tebow has a Heisman and VY does not. But Tebow did not play in the same years as Leinart or Bush. Absent the USC lovin', VY would be a Heisman winner. Were the Heisman awarded post-bowls, VY would be a Heisman winner. Had VY returned for his SR year ...

IMHO, VY wins the all-decade award, and it isn't really that close. What he did in the Rose Bowl against Michigan, against USC ... what he did in the 'Shoe. He single handedly took games over and willed Texas to victories in games that they had no business winning. Tebow is a great player and by all accounts a great person, but I don't need to look at Heisman votes or see who won the Johnny Unitas award to know that VY was among the single most dominant forces I have ever seen in college football for a two-year window; and that goes for any single player in any decade, not just this one.

I agree with it being Vince Young.

If I was starting a college football team, I'd take VY as my quarterback as any other QB from this decade. Then Troy Smith would be second. Tebow would be third. Tim is good, but I tend to think his athletes around him make him better. Other than Limas Sweed, I'm sure not many people could name a WR from the '05 Texas team.

The media loves Tebow as they should! He is a great football player, but more importantly he?s really a great kid. He consistenly gives back to people less fortunit and I?ve never really heard him say the wrong thing.

Tebow is also looked at as a very vocal leader that puts his entire team on his shoulders which I think is why people give him a lot of praise, but as a Freshman, so does Pryor. Tebow gets more credit for it again because of the love he gets from the media, but there are a lot of guys that are just as passionate about their team and teammates as Tebow is, they just don?t get the credit or the media attention for it. His leadership ability, though something I appreciate and respect, doesn?t set him apart as the best player this decade.

Which leaves us with talent:

Tebow isn?t even the most talented QB this year, let alone the most talented QB this decade. How could he be the best player this decade? I don?t even think Tebow is the most talented player on his own team (IMO, that would go to Harvin).
