I wonder if you guys will have any interest in Darius Walker when the Texans likely cut him for the 2nd time this preseason.

Don't laugh - they need a third down and short yardage back who can catch. DW does not have Irons' wheels but somebody like him is likely to be viewed now that Irons is done till the spring. (As in a player cut from squad as teams trim down).

And shoegirl - please don't curse him with the Ki-Jana voodoo doll :)

It isn't like there wasn't ample evidence he sucked before they drafted him. My god, plop in some game film watch him play elite WR's and it jumps out at you...he sucks. Problem for Cincy now is that every WR in the NFL is of the caliber to toast his ass.

Makes you wonder what these GM's are looking at sometimes.

I agree wholeheartedly - but seeing him struggle against, at best, their 2nd string WR who will see the field at most 5% of the time was a brutal reminder of those facts.

Its like the NFL dodged the bullet and didn't buy into Shazor then just puked all over themselves and bought into Hall. Same guy if you ask me.

I didn't see Hall in there in the second half, and it was Ndukwe that got burned on the 83-yard play. To me, the lack of any pass rush is what our problem is, just like last year, and the year before, and the year before, etc. I can't wait to play NE and watch Tom Brady get 10 minutes of protection while he waits for Randy Moss to start running hard. It's going to be another banner year for opposing QB's. :(

If Keiwan Ratliff can't have ample playing time, he would prefer to play somewhere other than Cincinnati.


GEORGETOWN, Ky. -- Keiwan Ratliff has lined up with the starters throughout Bengals training camp. That's the good news for the Whitehall graduate.

The bad news is that it's probably not destined to last. His status on the team could be in peril.
Playing with the first unit this summer has been largely a function of Johnathan Joseph's foot surgery and rookie Leon Hall's brief holdout. Those two are Cincinnati's most recent first-round picks. With Deltha O'Neal playing better than he did last year, Ratliff could be squeezed out.

Mayor wears football partisanship on sleeve

GEORGETOWN, Ky. -- It's not often a politician is willing to say something he knows will upset half of his constituency, but Columbus mayor Michael B. Coleman didn't care.

When it comes to the NFL, Coleman doesn't try to hide his allegiance. He's a Bengals man.
Yesterday, it was Hizzoner's honor to be the Bengals' guest at training camp. Decked out in a Bengals shirt, shorts and hat, Coleman stood on the sideline chatting with Bengals president Mike Brown. He sounded almost awe-struck talking about his conversation with coach Marvin Lewis, and during Lewis' news conference, Coleman stepped off to the side to snap a picture with a disposable camera.

CINCINNATI -- With size 19EEE feet, Willie Anderson wears the biggest shoes in Bengals history -- literally and, in the past decade, perhaps figuratively.
Now it's no sure thing that Anderson, a four-time Pro Bowler revered as the team's sage, will be ready for Cincinnati's opener Sept. 10 against Baltimore. Wearing a protective boot on his right foot, Anderson revealed yesterday that he underwent a "procedure" last week in Atlanta.

CINCINNATI -- Exhibition games have the shelf life of an Etch A Sketch drawing.

Once the season starts, no one remembers how a team does in August. Good thing for the Bengals. Their 27-19 loss to the New Orleans Saints in their home opener before 65,227 fans in Paul Brown Stadium was a forgettable affair.
"We didn't play well -- on either side of the ball," defensive tackle John Thornton said. "We're not a finished product yet."
Cincinnati's offense failed to score a touchdown in eight first-half possessions, four with Carson Palmer at quarterback.

Bengals: Little things about loss bug Lewis

Tired legs. No game planning. Missing players.
These were reasons given for the Bengals' sorry performance in a 27-19 preseason loss Saturday night to New Orleans in Paul Brown Stadium.
Coach Marvin Lewis and his players weren't indifferent to the failures.
"Obviously, I'm not happy with how we performed," Lewis said.
The Bengals scored only three points in four possessions with Carson Palmer under center, extending the starters' streak without a touchdown to six drives.
Cincinnati's defense allowed Drew Brees to drive the Saints for a touchdown without forcing one third down on New Orleans' only possession with its starting quarterback.

We've been saying that for years, haven't we? Unfortunately no one actually running the team listened. :( Unlike several years ago when we said the offensive line was the problem (remember Rod "Ole" Jones) and they FINALLY started addressing it.

Bengals notebook: Anderson now says opener possible

CINCINNATI -- Four days after speculating that his right foot injury could keep him out of the season opener and beyond, Willie Anderson said he is confident he will be ready to play against the Baltimore Ravens on Sept. 10.
"A foot injury can't stop me from playing football," the Bengals right tackle said yesterday. "I really believe come opening day I'll be there."
Last week, Anderson disclosed he had undergone a nonsurgical procedure in Atlanta to address lingering problems in his foot. He said then that doctors predicted the procedure had a 60 percent chance of helping. If it didn't, Anderson said, "bad news comes out."

We've been saying that for years, haven't we? Unfortunately no one actually running the team listened. :( Unlike several years ago when we said the offensive line was the problem (remember Rod "Ole" Jones) and they FINALLY started addressing it.

Yeah, I'm sure Akili Smith is still cursing Rod Jones. Thankfully, we have good OTs now, we just have to keep them healthy.

Yep...our defense is a pain to watch. Last year I would usually just turn it to a different game when our D would get on the field because it would piss me off to much to watch them get stomped. If our offense can't put up 30 plus every game, we may be screwed.

CINCINNATI -- Ed Hartwell had a simple reaction when Bengals coaches moved him from outside to middle linebacker last week.
"Thank God," he said.
It's not that Hartwell disliked playing Will (weak-side) linebacker. He's glad to have added some versatility to his resume. But the man is a middle linebacker at heart. He's back at home.

CINCINNATI -- As a peewee football player growing up in Cincinnati, Lemar Marshall saw a few minutes of glory playing in Riverfront Stadium.
"On that hard turf," Marshall said yesterday. "I remember those days very well. We're not in the same stadium, but it's fun to be back in the city."
Cut by the Washington Redskins on Monday despite having 251 tackles the past two seasons, Marshall signed a one-year contract with his hometown Bengals to provide depth at linebacker.
