Carson Palmer is a firm believer in center Eric Ghiaciuc's ability to play in the NFL.

GEORGETOWN, Ky. -- Rich Braham posters cover Eric Ghiaciuc's locker.
Ghiaciuc doesn't know who put them there, but he suspects his fellow offensive linemen.
"They put, like, 50 in my locker," Ghiaciuc said, his laughter a testament to his confidence in replacing the longtime center.
So the ghost of Braham lives among the Bengals.
Braham was the rock upon which Bengals linemen and quarterback Carson Palmer relied for years. When Braham injured a knee in the second game last season, they were pining for his return. But the injury ended his career.

Bengals miss depth Kitna brought at QB

Jon Kitna, in his second season with the Lions, was considered a team leader for the Bengals as a starter in 2004 and a backup in 2005.

The Cincinnati Bengals will reunite with a friend tonight when they open their exhibition season at the Detroit Lions.
Jon Kitna, who helped lift the Bengals out of their long doldrums, is in his second season as Lions quarterback.
Bengals coach Marvin Lewis couldn't say enough nice things about Kitna this week.
"He was, no question, the leader of this football team," Lewis said, "both on the field and subtly behind the scenes. We wouldn't have all these people out here (watching camp) every day if it weren't for Jon Kitna and his leadership, frankly."

I know it is only pre-season, still, it is pro squad versus pro squad.

I also know that, due to work, I got to miss 2/3rd of the first half so my view is skewed by the limited and shifted squads. Still the truth about Leon Hall as a Bengal in what I saw?

HE SUCKS!!

Calvin Johnson burned him in the 2 minute offense on huge plays one after another. Now, I know CJ was the #3 pick, but this is his first week in camp. Still Hall was the Bengals #1 pick. Worse yet, Hall got burned by one of the lesser Lion receiver on every play that the ball was thrown after him.

The stuff he has shown thus far does not justify a number one pick, not even close. Very, very poor coverage indeed.

It is early, but right now wasted pick is the phrase that comes to mind.

You're right about one thing so far: it IS early. It's the first preseason game... give the guy a little time to learn and perform at this level. Hopefully he'll develop some and turn into a great player. Hopefully. If not, then yeah, maybe a wasted pick, indeed. But you've got to give him a chance.

I bet Hall has a ton of gassers to run after this performance - thank god the Bengals have an offense even in their second string.

As for the 2nd string receiver that burned Hall multiple times - McDonald's numbers over 3 years are less than stellar. I hope that TSUN product proves me wrong, but right now all the plays we saw Ohio State burn him on seem like a preview of things to come. And that is not good.

Lions cornerback Keith Smith intercepts a pass intended for Bengals receiver Chris Henry during the second quarter.

DETROIT -- Plenty to provide confidence. Enough that must improve.

So it went for the Bengals last night in a 27-26 exhibition loss to the Detroit Lions in Ford Field.
As expected, Bengals first-teamers didn't play long. Most of the offensive and defensive starters played only two possessions.
Both units did more good than bad. Bengals starters outscored the Lions 6-0 and outgained them 126-63. But the offense couldn't get in the end zone, settling for 23- and 48-yard field goals by Shayne Graham, who missed a 48-yard try as time expired.

It isn't like there wasn't ample evidence he sucked before they drafted him. My god, plop in some game film watch him play elite WR's and it jumps out at you...he sucks. Problem for Cincy now is that every WR in the NFL is of the caliber to toast his ass.

Makes you wonder what these GM's are looking at sometimes.

Exactly...I was thinking that we got exactly who we drafted. The Leon Hall is the same Leon Hall I had seen when he faced an NFL caliber WR, not the highlight reel against MSU, Minnesota, and any other sub-par team they faced. He got beat by every NFL caliber WR in college...why would it be any different when he gets to the NFL? So I wasn't thrilled with our draft in the first place, especially now that Irons is out. Our first 2 picks were a flat-out waste and I hope Jonathan Joseph is ready to go this year...however, I was very impressed with Ndukwe and White (3rd round pick from TCU).
