Reserve Wilson faces charges
Among 14 arrested outside W.Va. club
BY KEVIN KELLY | [email protected]
Bengals running back Quincy Wilson was one of 14 people arrested early Sunday in Huntington, W.Va., when police tried to break up a large crowd that had gathered outside a downtown nightclub.
The West Virginia University product was charged with disorderly conduct and taken to the Western Regional Jail in nearby Barboursville, W.Va. According to jail records, he was booked at 6:50 a.m. and released at 2:38 p.m. the same day.
Huntington police Lt. Hank Dial said officers wanted to disperse the crowd that had gathered shortly after 3 a.m. Sunday on 4th Avenue because of an earlier incident involving gunfire near the area. Officers arrested those who refused to leave, he said.

Bengals' Pollack won't play
Saturday, July 14, 2007 3:19 AM
From staff and wire reports
The Bengals made official today what had been obvious for a while: David Pollack will not play in 2007.
The 2005 first-round draft pick is still recovering from the broken neck he suffered Sept. 17 while making a tackle on Browns running back Reuben Droughns. Though he has shed the neck-immobilizing brace he wore for months, Pollack has not been able to participate in any football-related activities.
"David and the team agree that he is not physically ready to play this season," Bengals coach Marvin Lewis said in a statement released by the team. "He is working extremely hard and will continue focusing his efforts on rehabilitating with our medical staff."

Ghent deemed expendable
Team waives tight end as turnover continues
BY MARK CURNUTTE | [email protected]
The Bengals continued Monday to churn the tight end position.
Two weeks after signing free agent Bobby Blizzard -- who had a big season in NFL Europa -- the Bengals announced they had waived tight end Ronnie Ghent.
Ghent, a former Louisville player, spent the 2006 season on the Bengals' practice squad before being moved to the injured reserve list with a foot injury suffered Oct. 25 in practice. He was one of the last roster moves before the regular season opened.

Bengals: five questions heading into camp
Thursday, July 26, 2007 3:48 AM
By Bill Rabinowitz
THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH
No questions about Carson Palmer's knee. Not as many questions about Bengals off-the-field troubles.
The Bengals' training camp starting Friday in Georgetown, Ky., should be a quieter one than a year ago. Back then, Palmer had yet to prove he could return from his devastating knee injury. Back then, Bengals players hit the police blotter more often, it seemed, than blocking sleds.
Palmer answered with a Pro Bowl season. The rash of arrests has slowed.

How important was it to you that you not miss any time as a holdout?
I wanted to be in the first day. This is a team deal. I didn't want to be one of the players holding out. I wanted to give myself an opportunity to get some playing time in the preseason or on game day. Missing days of camp isn't helping me to further my opportunity to get on the field.

Safety thinks of taking risks
Game-changing plays are on Williams' agenda

Madieu Williams expects to get more opportunities this season to be a difference-maker in the Bengals defense. He made 77 tackles last season.
GEORGETOWN, Ky. -- Madieu Williams described his 2006 season as solid.
Solid is nice. Solid is fine. Solid, for Williams and the Cincinnati Bengals, is not enough.
On a defense short of proven playmakers, Williams has the ability to be a difference-maker at safety. Fast, instinctive and intelligent, the second-round draft pick in 2004 appeared to be on the brink of stardom before he suffered a torn labrum that cut short his second season.

Bengals rookie big hit in secondary

GEORGETOWN, Ky. -- Adjusting to the NFL's multiple-set offenses is taking Leon Hall some time, but the Cincinnati Bengals rookie cornerback immediately remembered last night how to drive his helmet through another man's heart.
Hall needed all of two seconds to blow apart receiver Reggie McNeal for a 2-yard loss during an intrasquad scrimmage.
Making his first tackle under gamelike conditions, Hall closed on McNeal and became a brick wall against which McNeal became an egg. It wasn't pretty, except to Bengals defensive coordinator Chuck Bresnahan.
"Leon's a kid who's going to get better and better, but where he's ahead of schedule is he's got tremendous technique and fundamentals," Bresnahan said, becoming more excited with each word. "He's been very well coached at the college level, up there at Michigan. The speed of the game will take him some time, but he's really on target now."

Ndukwe turns heads with his play in camp
Dublin Coffman grad wins coaches' praise as defensive playmaker

Bengals safety Chinedum Ndukwe, a seventh-round draft pick from Notre Dame and Dublin Coffman, has been a surprise so far in training camp.
GEORGETOWN, Ky. -- When Cinko Ocho is the numero uno trash talker on the team, and he's yapping in your direction, it can be tough to turn the other cheek.
Cincinnati Bengals safety Chinedum Ndukwe grins and bears it, however, having learned a long time ago that it's best to zip the lip when covering guys like Bengals motor-mouth Chad Johnson, otherwise known as No. 85, or cinko ocho, as he likes to call himself.
Ndukwe, a Dublin Coffman graduate, lives by the belief that it's better to let your talent, not your tongue, do the talking.

GEORGETOWN, Ky. ? On the 10th day of Cincinnati Bengals training camp at Georgetown College, Carson Palmer rested.
A year and a half removed from major reconstructive left knee surgery, the club is being cautious with its franchise quarterback.
"It's all a part of our plan for him," head coach Marvin Lewis said. "He plays the intrasquad scrimmage (Friday night), and today's a day to lift, train and run."

Backup QB Johnson takes center stage; Palmer does not take snaps in annual contest
BY MARK CURNUTTE | [email protected]
GEORGETOWN, Ky. - The Bengals held a touch football game Saturday, and no touchdowns were scored.
The black team, for whatever it means, won the fifth annual mock game 33-17.
Doug Johnson, the top backup behind starter Carson Palmer, who did not play by a pre-arranged workout schedule, was quarterback for the Orange team.
Johnson was 8-for-18 passing for 102 yards, no touchdowns and three interceptions. One of the picks went through the hands of wide receiver Reggie McNeal and into the arms of linebacker Ed Hartwell.
