Bengals running back Chris Perry ranks near the bottom of the NFL in yards per carry.

CINCINNATI -- Receiver Chris Henry was back on the field yesterday as a member of the Bengals. He should be in uniform for practice Wednesday. Quarterback Carson Palmer might not. At least, he will be limited.
With those comings and goings, the Bengals offense will look different this week. Whether it looks better depends in large part on its largest players.
After watching videotape of the 20-12 loss Sunday to the Cleveland Browns, Bengals coach Marvin Lewis put the onus on the offensive line to lead a turnaround in the team's fortunes.
"I'm disappointed in how we played physically, particularly in the running game," Lewis said. "We've got to do a better job."

So they pick up Cedric Benson and get Chris Henry back in the same week?

I don't have a problem with the Bengals.. but there is an obvious issue there IMO.

Re: Benson was arrested in May on charges of boating while intoxicated and resisting arrest, and again in June on a drunken driving charge in Austin, Texas. Two grand juries in Travis County, Texas, declined to indict Benson on the charges last week, ending the cases.

At least he wasn't indicted on these charges.

Bengals
Benson brought in as backup to Perry

CINCINNATI -- As they did with receiver Chris Henry, the Bengals gambled on raw talent despite a rap sheet yesterday in signing free-agent running back Cedric Benson, a former first-round draft pick. Each has the skills to transform the team's struggling offense, if he can stay out of trouble.
Benson was released by the Chicago Bears in June after two arrests in five weeks, for boating while intoxicated and driving while intoxicated. Both charges were dropped last week when grand juries declined to indict him.
The fourth overall pick in the 2005 draft, Benson is expected to back up Chris Perry in Cincinnati. He could play as soon as Sunday in Dallas.

Henry knows this chance could be last with Bengals

CINCINNATI -- Chris Henry was Terrell Owens for most of practice yesterday, a big-play receiver on the Bengals' scout team, working for the benefit of the team's defense. On the final play of the day, he joined the first-string offense.
"Like I haven't been away," he said with a smile. "I felt good out there."
It was Henry's first practice with the Bengals since the preseason. He was suspended for the first four games of the regular season. It is unclear when he will play in a game, how significant a role he can fill, and how long he can maintain it.
Those are just a few questions surrounding the league's most interesting 0-4 team.
While Henry was impersonating Owens on the practice field, Chad Ocho Cinco promised to match Owens' theatrics in Texas Stadium on Sunday, perhaps kissing the logo on the field if he scores a touchdown. Quarterback Carson Palmer practiced but did not throw, and newly signed running back Cedric Benson tried to digest as much of the playbook as possible. Welcome to the side show.

Chad Ocho Cinco is running his mouth again, having decided there is a correlation between his production on the field and his outrageous comments off it. The receiver was careful not to criticize Cincinnati Bengals coach Marvin Lewis or the offense, but he said he plans to kiss the star in Texas Stadium if he scores Sunday against Dallas and even promised "something else" during the game.
"I feel cocooned, I feel constricted," Ocho Cinco said. "We haven't done well. And I think my mouth, which of course is going to put pressure on us as an offense to perform, is going to help. It's damn sure going to help me, because my numbers look so damn horrible."

Bengals receiver Chad Ocho Cinco is promising to kiss the star on the field in Texas Stadium and give the Cowboys fits.

CINCINNATI -- The Dallas Cowboys have 13 Pro Bowl players, Super Bowl expectations and wounded pride. There is never a good time to face such a team, but this is a particularly bad time for the Bengals.
They will head west without a win, possibly without starting quarterback Carson Palmer and likely without benefit of surprise. Since the Cowboys lost to Washington last week, they figure to be focused and determined; it is a safe bet they will not take the 0-4 Bengals lightly.
"I know we're playing a powerhouse," receiver Chad Ocho Cinco said. "We have no room for error anymore. We're 0-4. We've got to throw everything we have at them. Why not?"

Bengals cornerback Leon Hall makes a futile attempt to stop Cowboys receiver Terrell Owens in the fourth quarter.

IRVING, Texas -- The Cincinnati Bengals were at their best and worst yesterday, at times when neither seemed possible. They were determined and daring and sloppy and overwhelmed, and they had a chance to beat one of the best teams in the NFL on the road.
When his teammates executed an onside kick with 14 minutes left, Bengals safety Chinedum Ndukwe thought to himself, "There's no way we lose this game." Carson Palmer and the offense felt unstoppable.
As quickly as that confidence spread across the team, it jumped to the other sideline, one of the multiple swings of momentum. Finally, fittingly, the ball trickled through the hands of one Dallas receiver into the open arms of another, giving the Cowboys the clinching touchdown and a 31-22 win.

IRVING, Texas -- Cedric Benson had only five days to learn the Bengals' playbook, so coaches limited him to running plays and play-action passes. He will get another crash course in the coming days.
"Coach just told me I have to get the passing game down next week," Benson said after the Bengals' 31-22 loss to Dallas.
His role is expanding quickly, a reflection of the positive impression he has made in limited time and the impression Chris Perry has yet to make in extended playing time.

So far this season, St. Louis has fired head coach Scott Linehan and Oakland has fired head coach Lane Kiffin.
But anyone who thinks Cincinnati head coach Marvin Lewis could be next is off base.
Very quietly, Bengals management has informed head coach Marvin Lewis that he is welcome to coach in Cincinnati as long as wants, according to a high-level Bengals source. It is as strong an indication to date that ownership has absolutely no plans to fire its head coach, certainly not now.
As it is, Lewis has two years remaining on his contract after this season. The Bengals are not in the business of writing any head coach a check through the 2010 season to sit on the sideline. So instead, Lewis will continue patrolling there, even as speculation has begun to swirl that he could be on the firing line.

Lewis remains committed

CINCINNATI -- Marvin Lewis has as much job security as any NFL coach could at 0-5. Mike Brown's history as Bengals owner says he will not fire a coach with more than one season remaining on his contract, and Lewis is signed through 2010.
The burning question here lately is whether Lewis will choose to coach the Bengals that long, given his public disagreements with Brown and the team's decline. He insisted yesterday that he is "very committed to doing the right thing here," including coaching the team for the life of his contract.
