A few years back I walked in to the Moeller teacher's lounge on a Monday and saw a set of 8 primo Bengals tickets pinned to the bulletine board with a "free to a good home" sign on top. On Friday after CC practice they were still siting there so I grabbed two and headed down to the stadium. Ended up in the yellow, cushioned seats at about the 35 - 40 yard line. Bengals jumped out to a 21 zip lead, led 28 - 7 at half time, 35 - 14 halfway through the 3rd and lost 42 - 35. Ah, the Bengals.

Back in the Riverfront era and I can't confirm this but I believe the Enquirer had a high school playoff game between two of the big Catholic high schools in Cincy outdrawing the Bengals that Sunday

Bengals
O-line to get a progress report

CINCINNATI -- The Philadelphia Eagles blitz as often and as well as any team in the league. Bengals coach Marvin Lewis said with a hint of exaggeration that he expects them to begin blitzing his team the moment they get off the bus Sunday morning.
The last time the Bengals faced such an aggressive defense, the Pittsburgh Steelers sacked Ryan Fitzpatrick seven times. The New York Jets sacked him five times the week before.

Bengals tight end Ben Utecht, right, has only 11 catches this season, far below expections for the free-agent signee.

CINCINNATI -- While his teammates prepared for today's game against Philadelphia, Bengals defensive end Antwan Odom watched with his left arm in a sling and waited nervously for results of an MRI on his sore left shoulder.
"I don't even want to look at it," he said Friday afternoon, while team officials surveyed the scans.
The extent of the damage has not been divulged, but the extent of Odom's frustration is evident. This is the second significant injury he has suffered since signing a lucrative free-agent contract with the Bengals in March. He missed training camp because of a sprained foot.

Notebook: Receivers' hopes are grounded
Philly allows short plays, takes away deep game
Monday, November 17, 2008 2:57 AM
By Scott Priestle

The Columbus Dispatch

CINCINNATI -- As they watched film of the Philadelphia Eagles' blitzing defense last week, Bengals receivers saw a chance to counter with some aggression of their own. Perhaps, they said, yesterday's game would be an opportunity to unleash a side of the offense few have seen this season.
Then the Eagles played the same cautious coverage that most teams have played against the Bengals, taking away the deep, outside passes at the expense of short passes in the middle of the field. So T.J. Houshmandzadeh went back to work.

Bengals kicker Shayne Graham and Eagles safety Quintin Demps watch Graham's failed field goal in overtime.

CINCINNATI -- The Bengals have played well enough lately to generate some honest confidence, to complement the macho posturing that is typical of the NFL. Some of each was at work yesterday when T.J. Houshmandzadeh lined up to return a punt, sure he was going to return it for a touchdown.
"Into the end zone, through the tunnel and right into the locker room," he said. "That's how I was going to end the game. I thought that every time."
Of course, nothing is that easy for the 2008 Bengals. Houshmandzadeh was able to field only two of the eight punts that came his way, he did not score on either of them, and his teammates similarly failed to score, despite numerous opportunities.

Bengals
Injuries, short week force some changes

The Columbus Dispatch

CINCINNATI -- The banged-up Bengals could use another bye this week. Instead, they must play Thursday in Pittsburgh, which means cramming five days' worth of preparation into three while also working in some new players.
Coach Marvin Lewis was coy about the team's injuries yesterday, but starting offensive linemen Andrew Whitworth and Levi Jones limped out of Paul Brown Stadium on Sunday, and each seems a long shot to play Thursday.

Rookie tackle's first start won't be easy

CINCINNATI -- When he sat in the offensive line meetings during training camp, Bengals rookie tackle Anthony Collins felt as if he were cramming for a test every day. Coach Paul Alexander and his veteran teammates discussed technique and theory in ways his college coaches never did.
"It tries to stay in, but some of it leaks out, so you've got to hear it again and again and again," Collins said then. "When coach Alexander talks to the veterans, they know exactly what he's talking about. But when he says something to me, it's like it wants to stay in, but there's so much, so many ideas coming in at the same time, I've got to do it over and over and over before I get it."

Bengals deactivate Ocho Cinco for game against Steelers

PITTSBURGH -- The Cincinnati Bengals have deactivated receiver Chad Ocho Cinco for Thursday night's game against the Pittsburgh Steelers for violation of a team rule.

The Bengals would not elaborate further on why Ocho Cinco was deactivated. The team said there will be no comment until after the game.
Ocho Cinco's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, addressed the issue during an interview on ESPN's "SportsCenter" Thursday afternoon. Rosenhaus hinted that the infraction was not major, and believes the suspension will not go beyond one game. "Chad is very disappointed that he's not playing, but he respects coach [Marvin] Lewis and the team's decision," Rosenhaus said. "He's not going to make this a controversy or a circus. We're going to keep it in-house between ourselves and the team. He's got five more games to go. This is unfortunate that he's not playing. Chad lives to play."

Steelers 27, Bengals 10: Reserves not enough
Injuries force Bengals to turn to their backups
Friday, November 21, 2008 3:07 AM
By Scott Priestle

The Columbus Dispatch

PITTSBURGH -- There are no cheers for catches on the scout team, and certainly no television coverage. So when Glenn Holt caught a touchdown pass in the first quarter last night, he immediately ran to a nearby camera to dance and pound his chest.
While a busload of NFL talent watched from couches throughout greater Cincinnati, the Bengals' backups enjoyed a rare moment in the spotlight. It ended, predictably, with a 27-10 loss to the Steelers -- Holt dropped at least two passes after his touchdown -- but the "B" team made it entertaining for a couple of hours.
The Steelers eventually wore down the Bengals, all but sealing the win in the final seconds of the third quarter on a 2-yard touchdown run by Walnut Ridge grad Gary Russell. At that point, the Bengals were deep into their roster on both sides of the ball. They briefly played with four defensive tackles across the line because there were no defensive ends available.

Anyone think that the Bengals are now kicking themselves in the butt for not accepting the Redskins offer for Ocho Cinco last April?

What an idiotic move not to trade him. Stubburness of the Bengals to not give in to what Chad wanted. But at least Chad didn't his wish, so I'm sure they're happy...

Ocho Cinco says no lesson learned from benching

CINCINNATI -- Asked if he has learned anything from his benching for a verbal altercation with a Cincinnati Bengals coach, receiver Chad Ocho Cinco thought for a few seconds before barely smiling and giving a one-word answer.
"No," he said, then tried to move on.
Coach Marvin Lewis is trying to move on, too.
Lewis sent the Pro Bowl receiver home before a game in Pittsburgh last Thursday after he showed up late for a team meeting, exchanged words with a coach and then left the meeting. The receiver was back in Cincinnati while the Bengals lost to the Steelers 27-10.
Ocho Cinco talked about the punishment for the first time Wednesday, declining to go into detail about what happened while acknowledging that the one-game benching was merited. The receiver expects to play Sunday against Baltimore if he's healthy.
"I put [Lewis] in a tough position, and he made a call he had to make," Ocho Cinco said. "It is what it is.
"I didn't get a chance to play. My dad [Lewis] deactivated me, punishment for his son. Other than that, I'm back this week, ready to have some fun against some very good friends of mine. I'm looking forward to spoiling their playoff chances or whatever we have the chance to spoil."
Lewis also has declined to talk about the incident, other than to acknowledge that Ocho Cinco was deactivated for the game and sent home because of it. If the receiver's sore right knee allows -- and if he stays out of trouble the rest of the week -- he'll play against Baltimore (7-4).
"I think he'll be good," Lewis said. "If he's healthy and he goes through the week and we feel like he's our best, he'll get an opportunity. If he does things correctly, as he has in the past, he ought to play Sunday."
The receiver's conduct last week was a reminder of his strained relationship with the team, which refused his trade demands in the offseason. Ocho Cinco backed off his threats to sit out and has been low-profile most of the season: no touchdown celebrations, no sideline theatrics, no trash talk leading up to games.
His numbers are pretty quiet, too. He has 41 catches for only 383 yards and four touchdowns. His longest reception went for 22 yards.
"You don't get the same fiery Chad? No," he said. "I came in quiet and focused and have tried not to be a distraction all year. I have done that very well, except for the little altercation where I left the meeting early. That was about it."
It's too early to tell whether the latest problem will sway owner Mike Brown to consider dealing the receiver, who is under contract for two more seasons. The Bengals (1-9-1) rank last in the NFL in total offense, and some players are expecting an overhaul. Pro Bowl receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh is a free agent after the season, but the Bengals could use their franchise tag to keep him.
Ocho Cinco expects to be around for the rest of his contract, which runs out a few months after Cleveland Cavaliers player LeBron James is eligible to become a free agent as well.
"When LeBron is out [of Cleveland), I'm out, too?" Ocho Cinco said. "I don't have a choice. I'm here to 2010."
He doesn't plan to publicly lobby for a trade again in the offseason.

Bengals All-Pro receiver fears standing with team isn't 'OK'

Chad Ocho Cinco is on pace for 62 catches and 575 yards, after he averaged 92 catches and 1,314 yards in the previous five seasons.

CINCINNATI -- Chad Ocho Cinco rejoined his Bengals teammates at practice this week, though a mild knee injury limited him to occasionally watching from behind the play. In some ways, that has been the story of his season: too often a spectator.
Though Ocho Cinco insisted he is as healthy as ever and playing as well as ever, the stat sheet tells a different story, and his brief blowup last week suggests his frustration is growing.
"I can't be the same individual I have been in the past few years," he said yesterday. "Being what some people would call a distraction by speaking up in the offseason, I can't come back and think everything is OK. It's not OK."
