BCS Title Game: Auburn -3.5 vs Oregon (ov/un 74.5) Jan 10, 2011

SEC teams are 7-0 in BCS championships with 5 different teams winning the title. That is an impressive stat considering that the Big 12 is the only other conference with multiple winners with 2 teams.

conference pride makes sense. Georgia fans being arrogant about their accomplishment does not.

Their team failed miserably yet again.

Their membership and proximity to good programs does not earn them any bragging rights any mote than northwestern fans when the big ten sweeps the bcs.

Florida had a huge role in the sec run. Georgia has been a perennial underachiever and just turned in the worst yet, losing to ucf. They have no bragging rights for the taunting.

Taunting aside, these two posts define the divide here. Being proud of the conference's BCS efforts - even though one's own team did not perform up to par - will always be looked at with mixed results. But I can tell you that every team feels as thought they - I dunno - molded or formed - or at least played a part in the evolution of the team that became the conference standard bearer in a title game- or any bowl game for that matter. They think that their team losing a tough game, even though a loss, had in hand in helping the other team in their path to the championship.

It might be stupid, maybe arrogant, possibly untrue, but that is the perspective. But I thought I'd throw that out there because it seems unfathomable to many why a fan of the poodles might be happy with a Tiger win last night and beat the respective conference chest.

And this sentiment should be extended to: Vanderbilt, Kentucky, Tennessee, Mississippi, Mississippi State as well?

There is no taunting aside. It is the core of the issue here.

cincinnati gave osu their biggest scare in 02. Can they celebrate their championship too, or is that a ridiculous notion?

Seems obvious to me...when you finish with a 6-7 season and lose to UCF 10-6 in a bowl game... why not draw attention away from yourself.

Interesting aside - around Cincinnati they still talk of how close they came to beating the '02 champs.

Though, they don't talk of it as if they helped mold, hone, or form the mettle of that team. Quite the contrary - they talk more like something ORD would pin a Godfather outtake label upon.

Maybe its a Southern vicarious achievement award cultural trait.

Or maybe UC is just the bitter, unwanted bastard stepchild as ORD would have it.

Anybody else think Auburn's players/coaches reactiosn at the end were oddly subdued? It looked a lot like they won any other game...hardly any jubilation. Just really odd, my IMO.
A 19 yard field goal from an automatic kicker after toying around the goal line for 50 seconds isn't exactly the most heartstopping way to win a title game. And FWIW Wes Byrum was going crazy

Um, it's the NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME. They looked like they had just survived a scare against Vanderbilt. It was really, really odd (kicker aside).

The only person I saw that I thought looked like that was Cam. And that whole situation has been discussed ad nauseum. Chizik was throwin up the double fist pump like it was going out of style lol.
