BCS predictions/discussion/Knock Em' Off

OSU's five remaining opponents are a combined 25-10 right now. Not worried one bit about computer polls.

I'm not either, even if the remaining opponents were a combined 10-25. Too much of the BCS formula is human voters, and with the way they operate, an undefeated number one team won't drop below another team with one or more loss.

Bingo, so long as OSU stays #1 in the Coaches and Harris Polls. As much as Tressel will deny it, it is absolutely all about style points now. If the human voters are given a reason to swap OSU with USF, then the Buckeyes could be in real trouble.

Luckily, the coaches aren't likely to switch their votes on scoring margins, but the Harris poll will be one to keep an eye on. Even with the back-loaded schedule, the computer polls will be a factor at keeping OSU out of either the #1 or #2 slots if the human votes start going elsewhere.

USF absolutely deserves their ranking at this point.

they beat West Virginia as well as Auburn on the road.

and i think if they win out, their strength of schedule will hold up.

they still have yet to play Rutgers (4-2) Uconn (5-1) UC (6-1) Louisville (4-3)

Ditto. They deserve it a lot more than Boston College does. They've won big football games. Their upset win over Auburn at Auburn was almost as crazy as Auburn's win against Florida at Gainesville. They disrupted Heisman hopefuly Steve Slaton. And, if they go up north to win games in the cold, especially at Rutgers and at Connecticut in back to back weeks, and then at Pittsburgh to close out, I would have more respect for them than I do most Southern teams.

Not to mention that, of all the top teams, tOSU would wipe up the field with USF. So we should hope they face us in the NC game.

Not that I'm going to do anything except make fun of these people, but can you imagine the stuff fans from other conferences are going to say if Ohio State beats South Florida in the national championship game? Hm.. that'll be nothing compared to what they'll say if Ohio State loses to South Florida.

Odds are, both teams lose before the end of the season so I'm not really concerning myself with the BCS polls a this point.

They were unanimous but remember that is in the wacky world of BCS computer ratings. Not so on the models that predict most accurately.

USF was #1 in 5 of the 6 computer polls (tOSU was #1 in Billingsley's). The highest and lowest computer rankings are tossed out, so they got credit for 4 number 1 computer rankings.

Predicts Oklahoma over OSU in the title game.

Who has the edge?

October 14, 2007

NORMAN, Okla. – The Oklahoma Sooners are ranked fifth in the first Bowl Championship Series poll of the season, but cornerback D.J. Wolf is hardly discouraged.

"Hey," Wolfe said, "it's a crazy season in college football. If we win the rest of our games, who knows what will happen?"
No one, apparently.

Continued...

Would winning out ensure tradition-rich programs such as Oklahoma or No. 4 LSU get a shot at the national title? Or will college football fans be treated to a riveting Sugar Bowl showdown between Ohio State and South Florida? The Buckeyes and Bulls occupy the top two slots in the first poll.

I can't believe someone would pick Oklahoma over OSU... Jason King is a hack "writer". I'm done reading his articles.

Oklahoma is 11th in the overall computer rankings piece of the BCS, and none of the 6 has the Sooners in the top-10. Their remaining schedule isn't that tough, which means they could easily win out (but their computer rankings won't be helped by SOS); they definitely need LSU to lose to go around them, and Oklahoma would have a tough time staying ahead of a 1-loss Oregon or Cal. 1-loss Oklahoma and 1-loss USC would be a close call. It depends how many other 1-loss teams are left at the end.

People can say they hate the BCS but I love it. We get some good discussion out of it.

Besides, if we had an 8 team playoff, those losses this weekend wouldn't have meant as much.
