BCS predictions/discussion/Knock Em' Off

We are #1 because we are tOSU and undefeated. If USF had any sort of successful history dating back to the 1890's, then perhaps they would be given the same respect.

Ugh. I hate when people consider history when coming up with teams' rankings. A team's ranking should have nothing to do with last year, ten years ago, forty years ago, or a billion years ago.

In my opinion, saying that a team (South Florida) doesn't deserve to be ranked highly because of who they are is the same as saying another team (Florida State) DOES deserve to be ranked highly simply because of who they are.

Don't tell that to a Michigan fan. They seem to think that their all-time number of wins and their current bowl stream are worth a damn.

I think ranking them #2 despite not being in the pre-season top-25 and only playing football for 10 years is a shit-load of respect...
Or irrational exuberance? I'm still of a mind that they have road-mines that may undo their season (just as do we of course).

So what if USF was #1 and we were #2? If the Bucks win out, they will be in. No way around that little fact. So, who cares if we're in the game as the #1 team or the underdog?
That is certainly true. That was basically how 2002 worked.

If USF somehow jumped us in the polls (with neither of us losing a game) between now and the NC game, I'd bet huge sums of real money that we would not be the underdog...Vegas knows their shit.

True, but I think you know what I meant.

Tressel's 3-Step Plan to the NC
1. Win all your games.
2. Accept invitation to NC Game.
3. Win NC game.

No where in his plan is "Gain #1 BCS spot". When you coach at tOSU, you have the luxury of an undefeated season earning an invite to the NC game (at least it's a near certainty). So, let's finish up with step 1, then I have faith that we have step 2 in control, and then it's just a matter of ironing out that all-important third step.

I also follow a three-step plan for each year.

1) Beat Michigan.
2) Win Big 10 Championship.
3) Everything else is candy-whipped topping.

Or having not ever been ranked prior to one month ago...

If there is a team living off of what they've done on the field and not their rep, pre-season rankings, conference affiliation, or sportswriter love affairs, it's USF.

They're getting all the respect they can handle right now, from humans and the computers. Too much? We'll find out.

I am definitely going to watch the USF-Rutgers game. It's time to see if these guys are for real, as I don't think that you can know how good a team really is unless you watch them. Reading scores and crunching stats only gets you so far. It's the qualitative look at the product on the field that tells you what the story is.
