National title game: Dominoes could fall OSU's way

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Conventional wisdom strongly suggests that Ohio State's national championship dream took its final breath about 6:25 p.m. last Saturday, when Juice Williams converted a key third down for about the 20th time that day.
But has the patient really breathed his last? Perhaps not.
Oregon's loss at Arizona on Thursday night was the first of what the Buckeyes hope will be many doors to pop open that would allow them to play in New Orleans on Jan. 7. But the Ducks' loss is not the only one OSU needs to entertain the possibility.
Here's a brief look at the teams ahead of Ohio State in the Bowl Championship Series rankings, and their roads ahead:

I'm more afraid of ASU or Georgia leaping us than I am of these teams that need to lose.

Georgia has 2 losses already. The only way a two loss team makes it to the Championship is if there aren't any legitimate 1 loss teams left. The Buckeyes are schedule complete with only 1 loss.

I'm sure the BCS doesn't want a 2 loss team in their big game. It would make the Championship look even more tainted and controversial than it is already going to look as it is.

Arizona State leaping us is a concern though especially if they beat USC.

A true playoff would be really nice especially this year.

Go Buckeyes!!!!

There is something else to keep in mind here. I haven't heard anyone mention this yet. If we are headed for any kind of controversy over who goes to the title game and who doesn't, we could end up with a split national championship.

Remember that the AP Poll isn't affilliated with the BCS Poll any longer. The AP Poll is free to crown it's own National Champion and there could be a collective movement amoung many of those pollsters to do just that if it looks like some other team got screwed in some way.

Like for instance, a 2 loss team jumping a one loss team. That might cause some waves!

My perception has been that the AP Pollsters loathe the BCS Poll anyway. The BCS was created as an attempt to have an undisputed champion every year and perhaps the AP Poll would love an opportunity to fuck that up for them! That's why the AP is no longer aligned with the BCS me thinks!

Go Buckeyes!!!!

Then for shits and giggles USC to narrowly beat ASU.

Oregon is already out; Oklahoma is down 27-10 at the half
Missouri beating Kansas then losing in the Big12 title game would be great.
That leaves WVU losing either tonight or to Uconn.

This isnt out of the realm of possible

Here is a point that will become a big deal soon imo.

LSU finishes #1 and it becomes a beauty contest between a 1 loss WVU and a 1 loss OSU for the #2 spot, let the debates begin.

Our loss looks better and we haven't struggled with anyone else we have played. WVU struggled mightily with a 5-5 L'ville team and is in a dogfight as I type with UC.

Even if they stay 1 spot ahead in the human polls, can we out BCS them?

If this OU score holds up get ready to hear a lot of this.

I posted it in the other BCS thread but don't automatically assume a 1 loss WVU goes to #2 over a 1 loss OSU. In a beauty contest bewteen the two schools a strong case can be made for OSU.

I've been thinking about that as well. Does anyone honestly think WVU is better that tOSU?

WVU was 8 in the computers (OU was between them and OSU) It'll be interesting to see how that plays out come tomorrow's BCS standings.
