Money. The common issue brought up with the Fiesta is that Ohio State went to the Fiesta in back-to-back years, and the Fiesta Bowl committee was very disappointed that OSU didn't duplicate its 2003 numbers in 2004. Half the 2004 Fiesta Bowl crowd were Kansas State fans. By extension, the Fiesta marketing crew might decide that Oregon fans would show in greater numbers than OSU fans. Remember, the Fiesta also has a history with Oregon. The Ducks played Colorado in the 2002 Fiesta Bowl, which was the highest TV rating for a Fiesta Bowl broadcast for a non-national title game in 16 years.Someone give me some direction. Why would Oregon get an-large bid over the Buckeyes if we are ranked higher in the bcs?
The question is really whether the OSU fans paying for bowl vacations want to keep going back to the same city over and over again. Consensus right now appears to be that the Orange and Fiesta will agree that Fiesta gets ND and PSU while the Orange gets Ohio State to face the ACC champ. Both bowls probably benefit in big dollars from these pairings, since OSU fans would presumably go to the Orange (haven't been there since '76) rather than the Fiesta for the third time in four years.
There is also the suggestion that neither the Fiesta, or Tostitos, wants to be seen as playing favorites with the Big-10/Ohio State.
