given northwestern's victory over wisconsin and a near victory over the current number three team (penn state), i don't think it's a stretch. what team(s) do you think deserves it more?
i actually think they deserve it. the ap and usa today polls think otherwise, which doesn't say much.

Someone give me some direction. Why would Oregon get an-large bid over the Buckeyes if we are ranked higher in the bcs?
oregon may get the at-large bid because oregon is closer to arizona than ohio is and also because ohio state has been to the fiesta bowl two out of the last three years. also, the pac 10 commissioner and representatives are going to be in the ears of the fiesta bowl representatives.

does anyone know how oregon traveled to arizona twice this year? i bet that will have something to do with it, too. if oregon didn't travel well to the regular season games this year in arizona, it will bode less well for their chances at a fiesta bowl selection.

Then why isn't Oregon ranked higher than the Buckeyes in the BCS right now? I believe there season is done as is ours so why would anything change between now and the bowl selection?
We're higher in the BCS because we're a better team than they are. That has nothing to do with who gets the BCS selection. You only have to be top 12 to be considered. Notre Dame is pretty much a lock to get picked, and they're behind both of us.

oregon isn't ranked higher mainly because of the quality of schedules. also, the pollsters just know that ohio state is better.

as far as the ranking relation between ohio state and oregon, there should not be any change.

I guess that makes more sense even though those are bs reasons. Should only have to do with the respective football teams, not all that crap.

So the Buckeyes should get the BCS bid over Oregon for exactly those reasons, right?
i see where you're coming from, but you have to recognize where the fiesta bowl representatives are coming from: they are solely concerned with money and reputation. that's it. the quality of football only matters when it affects the money and the reputation.

of course, the reputation of the game will be more bolstered by including ohio state over oregon. the money is likely in ohio state's favor, too.

LSU and VT losses in their conference title games (or sooner) would easily put us at #4 BCS, locking up an automatic bid, presuming that Texas and USC win out, and that ND gets their auto-bid.

Beyond that, it's a matter of what the BCS bowls want. An at large bid is just that -- an opening for any team in the top 12 that a BCS game thinks would be a good matchup.

As Big 10 co-champs, and the highest ranked team with no automatic BCS bid, and as a team with a fan base that travels well, it's pretty clear that we should be pick of the litter here.

The only way I can see that we could get shafted is if during the bowl selection process, the bowl that winds up with the at-large pick already has Penn State. They can't match up two teams from the same conference.

Now, an argument is going to be made for a one-loss Oregon team to get the at-large instead of OSU, given that Oregon's only loss is to USC, but that's it. Just us and Oregon for the one at-large slot. Like OSU, Oregon is also in the clubhouse, having played their final game this weekend.

With Miami and Auburn not making their conference title games, there's not much of a case to be made for either of them getting the at-large, so count them out.

Now, if ND manages to choke this week against Stanford, the Oregon vs. OSU debate is moot, as that would open up a second at-large spot, allowing both Oregon and OSU in.

So, here's the Cliff Notes:

- ND loses, we're in
- VT and LSU lose, we're in

Anything else, it's either us or Oregon in the BCS.

Also, root for any of our former opponents who still have games, and against any of Oregon's former opponents who still have games. They're right behind us in the BCS, and if they pass us on computer points, our case is weakened.

Oh... don't worry... its called Television Ratings... (and as such, sponsorships dollars for the bowls... )

Someone call Tostitos and ask them if they'd rather see Ohio State vs. Notre Dame or Oregon vs. Anyone.
