Tressel shifts title-game travel

OSU keeps practicing in Columbus, will leave for BCS finale three days later than last year

COLUMBUS ? Ohio State coach Jim Tressel can't do anything about another 51-day layoff before playing in the national title game this year, but he can do something about how his team occupies the time.
The Buckeyes are planning a standard bowl trip to New Orleans, leaving just five days before their Jan. 7 game against Louisiana State ? as opposed to last year, when the players felt like they stayed at the bowl site long enough to get married, raise families and send their kids off to college.

"We said after we got back ... it felt like we were out there a long time," Tressel said.

I don't believe he had much choice in the matter. I think they are staying at the same hotel as the Sugar bowl teams and there are no rooms available until they leave.

Radio broadcast

When LSU plays on the road, the LSU radio play by play is transmitted not only back to LA. but also uses a low power transmiter so that LSU fans can pick it up in the opposing stadium if they want to. It only has a range of a 1/2 mile or so. Does OSU do that? I am curious about how many teams do it.

How many bowl practices is every team allowed? I thought that there was a limited number of "official" practices that a bowl team could hold.

There is no NCAA limit on how many practices a team can have between the end of the regular season and a Bowl Game. Teams are limited to the 20-hour per week rule until the school term ends.

Teams must have a certified athetic trainer present and have access to medical facilities.

FWIW, officials for the bowl game are NOT allowed to attend any practices.
