Here's that map. I had no idea there were that many schools on the mid-west.

  1. Thanks for posting the map
  2. We aren't terribly concerned about the other D1 schools in our area. It is still OUR area.
Most of the helmets you see up there are MAC schools. They don't compete for the players we go after. And keep in mind that those states you see up there are still much more populous than those in the south except Florida. And Florida's list of programs committed to major football prowess keeps growing. Ohio's list will not likely move past 1 in my lifetime.

Tressel shifts title-game travel

OSU keeps practicing in Columbus, will leave for BCS finale three days later than last year.

COLUMBUS ? Ohio State coach Jim Tressel can't do anything about another 51-day layoff before playing in the national title game this year, but he can do something about how his team occupies the time.
The Buckeyes are planning a standard bowl trip to New Orleans, leaving just five days before their Jan. 7 game against Louisiana State ? as opposed to last year, when the players felt like they stayed at the bowl site long enough to get married, raise families and send their kids off to college.

"We said after we got back ... it felt like we were out there a long time," Tressel said.

Return to title game is no rerun for OSU Players see different, more focused team set to earn respect vs. SEC

COLUMBUS: If Ohio State made a movie about this year's football season, it would be called Same Time Next Year.
After watching the dice roll their way as they sat at home during the Thanksgiving Day break having completed their 12-game schedule, the Buckeyes (11-1) find themselves in a recognizable position ? in the BCS National Championship Game.
This year, however, the junior-laden team finds itself in the role of decided underdog against the Southeastern Conference's Louisiana State Tigers (11-2).

BCS win would redefine Buckeyes nationally

Jim Naveau | [email protected] - 12.14.2007

[FONT=Georgia, Times New Roman, Times, serif]COLUMBUS ? Getting to the national championship game three times in the last six years and beating Michigan six times in the last seven years defines Ohio State football within the borders of Ohio.
But go very far from OSU?s home turf and it seems to be defined in other ways since Florida?s 41-14 win over the Buckeyes in the Bowl Championship Series national title game on Jan. 8.
Overrated would be one of the definitions. The product of a lightweight league and a soft schedule would be another.
The No. 1-ranked Buckeyes (11-1) have a sizable contingent of critics and doubters heading into their return trip to the BCS championship game against No. 2 LSU (11-2) on Jan. 7 in New Orleans.
Outspoken offensive tackle Kirk Barton went so far as to say the rest of the country hated Ohio State last Sunday when the bowl pairings were announced.

A lot of people don't know it, but Ohio has the second-most number of Div-IA football teams, behind Texas. Texas has 11 or 12, Ohio has 8, Florida and California each have 7.

Of course, Ohio has Ohio State, and then Cincinnati is now in a BCS conference, and then 6 MAC teams (Miami, Toledo, Bowling Green, Ohio, Akron, and Kent State). Not much to brag about, compared to those other three states. But for the die-hard college football fan, MAC football is good, too.

Here's a great quote from Beanie in Todays dispatch. I think its safe to say we are at least going to show up to play this game in a little different mind set than last years debacle.

New Orleans still has plenty of distractions, with the French Quarter and Bourbon Street. Yet when running back Chris "Beanie" Wells was asked yesterday what he hoped to experience most on the upcoming trip, he had a quick quip.
"Becoming a national champion," he said. "That's about it."
