I would say 3 points for a CFB team at home is a bit low. In CFB they should give at least 6 I think.

I'm sure it has been said in multiple threads, but I know a couple "SEC homers" that claim this is not a home game for LSU. I asked them if they would like to play the game on Jan 8 in Cleveland Stadium and they said no thanks.

you lost me with this line. Why would you subtract 2 or 3 points from the spread for the game being in the superdome.
Agreed, the typical add-on for home-field advantage, which several LSU fans maintain will be theirs in New Orleans is that extra 3 points.

But, Vegas is pretty smart about these things and likely has that already factored in.

Point is, even if the line were to be adjusted it would swell, not shrink by that 2-3 point delta.

Make no mistake about it. This IS a home game for LSU. Most of the fans at games in Death Valley (not counting students) are from New Orleans area.

Also, I can tell you this, every team that has played LSU this year with the execption of Miss St. gave us their best performance and played lights out. Florida, Alabama, Kentucky, Arkansas and Auburn played WAY above their talent level. I do not expect Ohio State to be any different they will give us their absolute best shot and the Tigers need to be ready for that. I am confident that we are game tested and will not panic if strange things happend. this game will be decided by 1 touchdown or less.

Yeah... welcome to the big time, I guess. One of the other LSU posters, on the "Please read" thread mentioned that LSU kind of "under the radared" their way into the game in 2003 (I can't honestly remember why he says that, really, but I'll assume its somewhat true). Of course you got those teams best performance... you had a target on your back.... that's how it goes. We were number all year last year... beat 2, #2's and took everyone's best shot... this year... the BCS Rankings came out, we were number one again. Hell, we're number one now.... but, whatever, no one gave Florida a chance last year... depsite winning the SEC... now the 'SEC is great'-- well maybe, maybe not. All we're really gonna know after this is over is who is better on that particular day, with that particular team.

Which leads me to:

Reading some of the posts here give me the impression that some of you seem to have some kind of inferiority complex when it comes to the SEC. You seem to be overly concerned about what others say about speed, strength of schedule, etc.

Oh, the irony.

Of course the SEC speed myth/best conference thing grew out of the SEC's own inferiority complex.... And, I understand that... if I spent most of the 80's and early 90's watching Miami and Florida State roll through the Big East and ACC in those days playing nobody and winning championships left and right while Florida, Georgia and all the rest of you had to beat on each other and get left out of the spotlight, I'd start advocating the idea that it didn't matter because "they don't play anybody" either and the SEC is the best conference too. Keep in mind, we were in the same situation in the Big Ten at the time... Of course, the screw job Auburn got in favor of USC and Oklahoma (I think it was that year) and the one we got in favor of Florida State (in 1998) only adds to this stuff.

Of course, the fun of Urban last year, and Florida getting into the game in lieu of Michigan (the right decision, IMO) and the ensuing blowout was "evidence" that the SEC was "right" all along. But, you know... we've heard it all before. (See, because when you play Miami... its called "Florida Speed" and went into that game a couple TD dog and won.)

Point is that the conventional wisdom- for now- is that the SEC is the best conference, largely because of Florida's win last year. Maybe that's the case, maybe it isn't... but... along with that goes these ridiculous notions of "SEC speed" as though the gravity, wind resistance and genetics of the South are different than the rest of the nation... and the Big Ten might be down... there are certainly some programs in "transition" but, its still a pretty good conference... and... we've had that target on our back since '02... and still won a lot of games... and spent a lot of weeks in first place in both our confernece and in the BCS... and that's what the Oklahoma's, Ohio States, USC's, have to live with, year in and year out. Ultimately, everyone wilted this year with that #1 on their back.... and lost games to lesser teams. And in the end, that's why you play them one game at a time.... and... this is one game, with lots of pressure... somebody is going to win, and it will alter perception... but ultimately, it will have pretty little to do with how good anyone is next year, or the year after.

LOL this sounds more like wishful thinking than a question. He would have been a top 3 pick last year. If he wanted millions he could have it last year and he has stated he wants a NC for LSU. This guy does not know how to dial it in, he will bring it all game long until his body can not take it. It is not in this guy's DNA to play half ass. This is the best stage for Dorsey to show his abilities to NFL. Before the Sugar bowl last year NO ONE was talking Russell as #1 draft pick.

That's all fine and dandy. I don't wish an injury on anyone so I hope I don't have to come back and say "I told you so" if he should happen to get hurt. Any play could be someone's last. I'm sure it wouldn't be the first time that someone mailed it in for their bowl game. Since you know Dorsey so well, tell him "hi" for me.

As far as wishful thinking.....I think Ohio State is winning this game no matter what an opposing defensive tackle might do so I could care less if he goes all out or not. I'd rather see Ohio State win while getting Dorsey's best effort. I don't want any excuses from the SEC raggamuffins!!!!

Have a good day.

Go Buckeyes!!!!!

Glenn Dorsey could have gone to the NFL last year (and he would've been a high 1st round choice). Playing in the BCS Championship Game, I don't believe he'll be concerned about his health at all. In my opinion, thinking that may be true is wishful thinking at best.

Last year, he wasn't coming off a season where injuries were ALREADY an issue either. :wink2:

If he had to go to the NFL combine today, how well would he perform?

I really hope you wouldn't.

That would be quite pathetic.

Never meet the guy, but I saw him after the Ark game. He gave EVERYTHING he had in that game and could barely walk off the field. It is an insult to Dorsey to even suggest he would mail it in for a bowl game. What a set of rediculous statements...

Not really because Auburn's top running back was out for 4 games. That is when they had that bad stretch. I have a lot of respect for Auburn. Your running game is much better than Florida, Ole Miss, Miss State. I would say you guys are as good as Auburn and Arkansas on the offensive line and run game.

And better than Alabama and Kentucky too....

it might not be much of a stretch to say Ohio State will have the best running game you've faced all year long.

Absolutly, but ULM is better than Alabama, take the Kentuchy comparison!!! LOL

Basically, I just do not think Wells is as explosive as McFadden. Seriously McFadden is a phenom.

Dorsey is a human being just like me and you. We all live in a world that revolves around money. Like it or not this world revolves around money. You either have it or you don't and which side you are on decides what type of life you have and what kind of opportunities you and your family get.

Dorsey happens to be sitting on a winning lottery ticket right now unlike you and me. He has alot to lose and I'm just saying I wouldn't fault him for having certain thoughts rolling around in his head about his future and his family's future.

You admit that you don't know him personally. I didn't think that you did.

I'm using common sense. My statements are not ridiculous. Your statements are ridiculous to think a young man with that much to lose wouldn't stop and think about the risks he's taking and for what? For some RAH RAH RAH, SIS BOOM BAH BULLSHIT!

Get a clue! I understand you are a fan of this guy and you look up to him but don't forget that when the final whistle blows he has to walk away and live in the same world that you and I live in and having millions of dollars in his pocket sure would help his cause.

Human nature and common sense says that he could very well decide to play it SAFE. This isn't a farfetched possiblity at all even though you refuse to accept it as a fan of the guy.

Best of luck to Glen Dorsey, now and in the future. I hope he gets healthy and can bring whatever he has to the NC. I just hope he doesn't plan on winning the game because HE'S NOT GOING TO. It would suck for him to lose the game AND lose his million dollar lottery ticket at the same time.

Go Buckeyes!!!!!

Of course the guy needs to protect himself. He pulled himself out of the Bama game to have his knee checked after they tried to chop block him in that game. Your statements about him not playing his best is simply ignorant and I am pretty confident LSU will win the game.

GEAUX TIGERS!!!

I think all players go out on the field and protect themselves to some extent, their intention when they go onto a football field is not to get hurt, it is to perform at a level higher than the guy directly across from them. They know the risks of playing a violent game and have accepted them or they would have never strapped on a helmet. When you look back in the past how many players with professional potential can you name who's careers ended because of injury at the college level? The only in recent memory that I can think of was Tyrone Prothro from Alabama. Even as bad as McGahee's injury was against us he has still gone on to a successful career and payday at the next level. Michael Bush from Louisville was drafted by Oakland even after a season ending injury that required three different surgeries. The point is players like Dorsey or Gholston or JL didn't put themselves in position for a large paycheck by playing it safe on the football field.

With that said I don't believe that any player in this game from either team would leave anything on the field on January 7th. Playing for money is certainly on many of these players mind but that time is going to come. This could and will be the only chance for some of these players to play for a National Title.

If he gets into the secondary and tries to run over Steltz they will probably be taking both of them to the lockerroom for repair. :-)

When Beanie's 240 hits Steltz's 210 at 4.5 speed, I like Beanie's chances...that's if Beanie doesn't stiff-arm Steltz 3 yards backwards first...
