Wow, sorry to hear that. Who's your backup and how much PT did he get this year?
Chimdi Chekwa. He was the Nickel all year. Played very well in extensive action against Purdue. Redshirt Freshman. Washington is better, but the drop off to CC isn't severe.

Edit: I should also add, when he's brought in, he plays CB, and Jenkins moves... Chekwa is fine on the corner, and moving Jenkins means teams can't avoid him as easily. I'm not sure if this will change the strategy v. LSU in Nickel situations, it'll probably depend on who comes in - Jamario ONeal (Staring exp. at Safety) or Andre Amos, listed as starter before a knee injury which vaulted Washington up. If JamO, I'd bet Jenkins stays on the corner, if Amos, I'd say it'd be Jenkins moving. Fortunately, LSU won't have OSU in 5 DBs all game long.

remains to be seen what this does to us in nickel however

Hell, I wouldn't believe it unless Herbie was reporting it.

And you're right sluTiger was only reporting what he heard on a Baton Rouge TV station.

Hell it's being reported on a LSU board that your CB Washington won't start because of "violation of team rules". I'm not taking that one to the bank either.

And on a serious note, will Jan 7th ever get here?

YAWNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN

Yeah, just made an edit to address that point. My guess is they go with Jamo because of the exp. but I have no idea how Amos has been looking in comparison. As 21 said, this much out in front of the game, there will be time to get a good look to figure out the best scheme.

That's a good point. With almost 3 weeks to the game I would imagine the coaching staff will be working extensively with the replacements and they will be watching a lot of film.

And I'm serious when I write this, I hope this isn't a major distraction for the Buckeyes. I'd like for both of us to be healthy and bring our A games to the Superdome Jan 7th.

I doubt it will be a major distraction. Certainly, from what I understand about the situation, a poor poor decision made by these two young men. Though not one so severe that I'd say their careers are on the line or the like. It's an "unspecified violation of team rules" at this point. I figure it'll be addressed, but I don't know that the media will have much to run with.

That said, it's certainly not an ideal situation. Eh... but, if OSU loses, I won't be blaming it on this.

This happened to LSU at the 2003 NC game. We had two players sell their allotment of tickets and were suspended. The player, Cary, lost his starting job to Vincent who went on to be the MVP of that game. The other player was our deep snapper on punt formation. Saban installed a weird spread formation to protect up the middle which cost us a touchdown on a block punt. After that we went to normal formation and everything was fine. Strange how these things work out..

Yeah. Honestly, it's one of the attractions to College football anyway. Of course, you don't want to see a kid get suspended from playing, but the other part of it ... the "Who's gonna step up" angle... I mean, the longest you'll ever have the same player in the same position is 4 years.. ya know?

So... one kid's misfortune or whatever is an opportunity for some one else. I hope Chekwa, Amos... ONeal.. whoever.. takes full advantage of it.

Agreed. I mean how many of us at 19 did not make a stupid mistake or something. I was watching SportsCenter and they were talking about FSU. 25 players may miss 1 bowl game for cheating. Miles suspended our All SEC DT for something similar for an ENTIRE year. I think to be an elite program like LSU and OSU, you must have a zero tolerance policy so your program will not spiral out of control like FSU..

I think FSU has been out of control for some time now, but that's another matter, and I agree with your point. I don't know much about Miles the disciplinarian, so I'll take your word for it.

Hart was lucky the replay angle was partially blocked by a ref. He gave a nice knee shot to Chekwa's head as he tried to get up.

OSU is fairly deep at CB with solid players. Amos, Chekwa have played well (Amos missed much of the yr with injury), and CB is OSU's premiere position when it comes to the NFL.

The main problem is what they are losing. Jenkins is the best CB, and should go top-10 when he departs, but DW is actually a little better in coverage. This frees up OSU to be much more aggressive in their schemes... something they could not last year with 3 limited DBs (Smith, O'Neal & Mitchell).

Also in nickel formations, Jenkins used to slide back to S, NB Chekwa to the other CB, S Russell to NB... so Washington was even more crucial.
