BCS Chances (El Gigante Merge)

As for the loser of Texas-USC dropping past #2, I don't think it should happen unless one blows out the other. They are the only two remaining undefeated teams and are ranked #1 and #2, light years ahead of everyone else. The winner should be #1 and the loser #2 (barring a blowout) with the rest of us jockeying for the best remaining rankings.

Judging by recent past history, the losing team in a blowout still wouldn't drop below us. Two seasons ago, when Oklahoma got it directly in the butt in consecutive games, from K State and then USC, they still finished above us in the final polls. And we defeated K State in the Fiesta Bowl, the same exact team that blew Oklahoma out of the water the game before. I believe we even ended up with the same amount of losses as Oklahoma.

Now that was some bullshit.

edit: Okla's second loss that season was to LSU in the BCS game, not USC (which begs the question of how USC could be going for their 3rd consecutive national title this season, but whatever).

Suppose the PAC 10 coaches are pissed enough to rank Oregon #3 in the coach's poll? PAC 10 voters include Mike Bellotti, Bill Doba, Walt Harris, Jeff Tedford, and Tyrone Willingham. If this happens, would this swing be enough to drop OSU down one position in the coach's poll and consequently one position in the BCS?

Don't worry it won't happen. Only Mike Bellotti would do that and even he might not.

Ohio State's BCS chances are academic. We end up #4 in the BCS standings and earn an automatic bid.

It isn't quite so clear that Notre Dame will finish in the top 6 in the final BCS standings. If that's the case, then we'll see how the media gives treatment to the fact that they will be the "at large" team selected over Oregon, Auburn, LSU, and Virginia Tech. And we can sit peacefully back and take it all in.

Well, could yesterday have gone any better?

I would not be concerned about making a BCS bowl...we are a lock at this point. Like posted earlier, the debate is now between ND making it in over quality teams such as LSU, VT, Auburn, and Oregon.

Are you on fucking crack? Fuck Penn State. I also root for all other Big Ten teams, when it doesn't negatively affect us. Penn State's winning their game will keep us from jumping them, thus I want Penn State to lose.
as cinci already pointed out, PSU losing makes us look weaker. Therefore their success is beneficial to OSU. They have to replace a ton of talent next year, and will not be nearly as lethal. Their resurgence is complete (and the likely success in recruiting), regardless of whether they win a bowl game or not. However, the legitimacy of the big 10 will be at stake against FSU.

Agreed.

PSU must smack some FSU ass to leave no doubt as to the B10's superiority over the ACC. I always root for the B10 OOC and in Bowl games personally, lone exception was scUM Rose Bowl after the '97 season and I was still torn on that one.
