Game Thread BCS Championship Game, tOSU vs. Florida - Jan 8th

Ya I understand youre not bashing, however Im not too sure USC would be able to go score to score with you either. Booty gets nervous and then plays bad, we saw what UCLA did to them. USC is a good team but I think they were overrated this year, still riding the media support from past teams.

I agree they were overrated, but before that game, namely because Notre Dame is terrible, they showed the ability to put up a lot of points. Not that you guys aren't better than them, UF has just had trouble on the offensive side. I am from Florida and watched most of their games. I have seen them outplayed on a couple occasions including South Carolina and even Vandy IMO, but a win is a win. Harvin sure does scare me, especially in the backfield.

 USC is VERY overrated this year I have said that since day one of the season...

Yeah, were gonna have to utilize Harvin. And as far as our offense, youve seen our playcalling. We'll be moving the ball down the field, then Mullen either puts Tebow in (at the wrong time) or runs somegimmicky play. We need to drop Leak back and pass, we have some great WR's, and run Wynn out of the I formation, we'd be a lot better off.

Im not sure its a guarantee that you can pound the ball up the middle on us, we have one of the best defensive fronts in football.
scUM was said to have The Best defensive front in all of CFB and we absolutely shredded their defense. We have a ridiculous amount of athletes on offense, and that is one way we have been able to neutralize other teams front seven. We go legitimately five deep at WR, and have two feature backs with contrasting styles. Notice I haven't even mentioned Troy Smith yet. I'm not writing off UF's defense, they have been very good all year, but all we heard leading up to the scUM game was how good their defense was...and the Texas game too for that matter. We picked both those teams apart, and probably had our most complete performance of the year against scUM's ballyhoed front seven.

As far as when UF has the ball, my biggest concern is Percy Harvin, he's the real deal. One thing that the Gators lack that M*ch*g*n has is a stud runningback. I think we can match up pretty well with your guys WR's in the secondary, and our front seven has been very good at getting pressure on opposing QB's and forcing turnovers all season with the exception of November 18. That is one thing that has to worry Florida fans, as Leak seems to be vulnerable to making some boneheaded decisions. I'm interested to see what kind of plays you guys draw up for Tebow and how JT and Heacock counter them. Should be a fun game to watch.

the real strength of OSU's offense is causing mismatches on receivers... either single coverage on ginn or an LB covering gonzo... just matching up a slower defender with one of our speedy receivers (which we have a LOT of).
Combine that with our O-line's ability to give troy time to throw and his ability to buy more time when needed, and our receivers WILL get open.
Then, like all year, the passing game opens up the run. Pittman and wells have their way once the opposing defense is spread out.

That being said, I think UF will be able to move the ball almost as well as michigan did if they play their best game. They need to keep pressure off Leak and give him time to throw. They also need to get a running game going, since Tressel loves to make a team one dimensional and shut them down completely. They have some athletic receivers with good size matched up with our smallish corners, but i don't think they run wild. And a few of the trick plays and tebow runs will work for first down conversions, i've seen our young defense not stay completely disciplined at times this year.

These are two talented teams with some really good coaching..They'll both be prepared and play hard and give us an exciting game. I'm thinking it'll be close, but OSU wins because of Troy's leadership and UF's lack of kicking game.

Now, this will be bashing. I despise Tim Tebow. I saw him in high school, and he was good. But I do not understand why they put him in, have him run for 2 yards, and he jumps up like he just won the super bowl. And the guy is huge, so why does everyone make a big deal when he isn't afraid to go head on with a 5'10 195 corner? I think Leak is good, and needs to stay on the field. What do they plan on doing with Tebow next year, he can't sustain gettin hit every play. And that double clutch shit against LSU was the worst example of a quarterback.

Youre free to bash him, personally Im not gonna hold anything against him, hes a freshman whos wanted to play here all of his life, I like seeing him get fired up after getting the first down, after all this is still a game. And its not just 5'10 195 lb corners, its pretty damn good safeties (LSU-All American I believe) and other big players.

And honestly, we wouldnt be playing you in Glendale without Tebow or a few other freshmen stepping up and making plays when we need them. Next year I think its safe to assume he wont be taking on defenders when its not necessary as our starting QB. We'll get to see him in a spread offense, along with another freshmen Fayson, whos a good looking QB whos fast and should do well lining up along side Tebow and/or taking direct snaps.

I think he'll be fine throwing, just needs some reps in games. He set a ton of passing records here in Florida, you dont do that without a good arm and talent.
I know he was ridiculous in high school, i dont get why he has looked very poor throwing the ball though. Perhaps hes a bit nervous, idk. But you have to admit he has looked very bad even attempting to throw swing passes and shit. Did you watch the western carolina game?

Here is my question for you...

You guys had quite a few close games...Just curious as to your feeling on why...Was it due to injuries @ the time, stupid TO's, playing to level of competition or were the other teams actually going toe to toe with you guys?

For example, some UF fans might look at the Ill. game and say a sorry team like that put up a fight so they must not be that good. Well we controlled the game all the way through and really buttoned up the offense in the second half for whatever reason.

Or like some of our close games in the 02 season when the offense really struggled when Clarett was injured...

I have only seen UF twice this season, once against Tenn and against Arkansas, so I am looking for your thoughts on the situation?

The size of the OL won't make an iota of difference. Tennessee came into the Swamp last year with an OL that would've been the 2nd largest OL in the friggin NFL, and they were absolutely shredded. I think our front 7 is better than Michigan's, they along with a bend-but-don't-break and opportunistic secondary is what carried us through the year. The loss of Marcus Thomas is definitely huge, but luckily, DL is our deepest position and we've been able to get by without him. Here's my analysis:

Florida offense vs. Ohio State defense:

WRs vs. DBs
I think Florida has an advantage in the passing game. If you guys play a bend-but-don't-break type of defense, I think it'll actually really play into our hands. UF's OC, Dan Mullen, seems to have a phobia when it comes to passing over 20 yards. We're a dink-and-dunk type of offense, relying almost entirely on playmakers getting YAC for big plays. Baker is our go-to guy, while Caldwell and Harvin are our home run guys. Cornelius and Ingram need to be accounted for as well, as one has tremendous speed while the other is a real bull, hard to bring down.

QB/OL vs. DL:

Leak performs abnormally badly when he's pressured. Of course most QBs don't perform well when they're under pressure, but Leak is just absolutely terrible. However, if you give him time, he'll pick you apart. I advise blitzes when we go 5-wide, as our OL absolutely needs advantage in numbers to have a chance to simply not allowing a guy unblocked. We use Tebow mainly for short-yardage situations. The reason he's used is because just running straight-ahead, he's as tough as any RB we have. But he also has the added threat of passing, so it keeps the defenses on their heels a little bit.

RBs vs. Defensive Front 7

Our RBs suck, which is why we use Percy Harvin at RB quite a bit. I don't expect to get consistent rushing yardage against you guys. Maybe Percy will break one here and there, but overall, the running game isn't enough of a threat IMO. The running game is better with Tebow in, as now defenses have to account for the QB, one that can actually get some yardage when he keeps the ball on an option play. But of course, he isn't quite at Leak's level when it comes to passing.

Ohio State offense vs. Florida defense

WRs vs. DBs

Your receivers against our secondary is mostly a mismatch. We don't really have the speed in our secondary to stay with your WRs for long, so we'll be depending on our front 4 generating pressure on Troy Smith. We play a bend-but-don't-break style of defense, as our CBs simply cannot be relied upon in man coverage. CB Ryan Smith has great skills and is very opportunistic, and Reggie Nelson is just a freak of nature. Smith will be called upon to cover your best WR, while Nelson will be called upon to make sure big plays don't happen. I see Gonzales having a great day, as Smith and Nelson will likely cover Ginn's side, leaving Reggie Lewis and Tony Joiner on the other side. Overall, I see you guys have little trouble moving the ball on us through the air.

QB/OL vs. DL

Troy Smith is obviously the best QB we'll face all year. We've been bailed out quite often by poor QB play when we went up against elite receivers of the SEC, but that won't happen with Smith at QB. Your OL is obviously pretty good, but the Florida DL is one of the top units in the nation. Cohen and Harris at DT are both seniors who have plenty of experience. McDonald and Moss are both very athletic DEs who can stop the run and generate a tremendous pass rush. Our first guy off the bench(he may even start if we move McDonald to DT), Derrick Harvey, is an amazing pass rusher, as he leads the SEC in sacks while this is his first year with major playing time. I think overall, it's a pretty even matchup, with Troy Smith doing his magic avoiding the pass rush and launching bombs.

RBs vs. Defensive front 7

Pittman and Wells are excellent RBs, but I don't think they're much better than Tennessee's or LSU's RBs. We relied mostly on our front 7 to stop the run against those 2 teams, and we'll be trying to do the same against you guys. Our linebackers are all fast, smart, and disciplined. No one has broken off a long run on us, so it'll be tough for you guys to run on us. I know you broke a couple big ones on Michigan, but the guys we have don't miss tackles. Siler and Everett have been starting since they were true freshmen, they've seen all sorts of RBs, so I think if you guys will have trouble in the running department. That only means you'll have to depend on your Heisman quarterback and amazing receivers to win the game, not a bad deal really.
