What a mojo relief it has been to see the ESPN talking schmucks not beat the "Greatest team of all time" "can't be beat, hand em the crystal" bullshit drum with Ohio State this year. Every time the champ is anointed well before the fact, it spells certain doom.

Tonights question: Can Florida generate enough offense against OSU?

Both Lou and Mark are certain that Florida can, that the whole season's been an abberation, filled with playmakers everywhere... that Tebow may even run right... bla bla bla...

Thank God. So long as Ohio State is not touted as the "Can't lose" shoe-in by the ESPN schmucks, I'm a happy guy.

Exactly. Holtz also said that ND wouldn't get smoked by LSU. Apparently he didn't watch the Michigan or USC games.... :wink2:

UF fans think that Jamarcus Russell is better than Troy Smith.

I don't know that this can be true. Jamarcus Russell threw for 1 TD and 3 INT when LSU played at Florida in early October. If I can do math, that's 2 INT shy of Troy Smith's total of 5.

That stat alone trumps the argument that Jamarcus Russell and his 168.10 QB rating makes him a better QB than Troy Smith and his 167.87 rating.

(Stats from that entertaining sports company.)

Still, Florida does make good teams play poorly, matching them with turn overs and penalties.

"If Russell played in the Big Ten his stats would be far superior to Smiths."

I couldn't agree more. It's nice to see that ESPN is still doubting this team. Now we just have to hope corso picks the gators and they continue pimping SEC speed.

Well we know they'll continue with their speed mantra. But I'm a little worried about Corso. His picks are completely random. He just might jump on the bandwagon at the last minute and jinx us... :wink2:

If he was going to jump on he would've already done it. I will be pretty surprised if he picks us.

Know Your Enemy

I decided to break down the Florida-Arkansas game focusing mainly on Arkansas' play calling versus Florida's defense. I'll give my general impressions later, but here's the break down.

Arkansas

1st Quarter
3 Drives
Runs- 13 Passes- 4

1st Drive:
runs-3
*end around shut down, pass to the flats negated by Florida penalty sets up second and short, shut down two consecutive run plays, punt

2nd Drive:
runs-3
*reverse for minimal gain, run for minimal gain, sweep left for minimal gain did not convert on third and three, punt

Florida field goal 3-0
*Hilarious how Florida fans went crazy when they made a short field goal.

3rd Drive:
run-8 pass-4
*run for short gain, run for nice gain -first down
*run for nice gain- first down
*run to outside stopped for loss, run stopped for loss, third and long pass over the middle- first down
*run for minimal gain, play action pass complete- first down
*run for minimal gain (penalty on Arkansas repeat first down), play action pass to endzone incomplete, draw for minimal gain, QB pressured incomplete pass, missed field goal

End of First Quarter: Florida- 3 Arkansas- 0

2nd Quarter
4 Drives
Runs- 6 Passes- 7

1st Drive:
run-3 pass-2
*nice short pass in the flat set up second and short, converted first down running
*shut down two consecutive running plays, failed to convert third and long passing, blocked punt sets up easy Florida touchdown

Florida- 10 Arkansas- 0

2nd Drive:
run-1 pass-2
*run for minimal gain, play action pass batted down at the line, swing pass incomplete, punt

Florida touchdown on long pass 17-0

3rd Drive:
run-2 pass-2
*penalty makes it first and fifteen (going to be run play), play action pass incomplete (pass interference)- first down
*nine yard run, short run ? first down
*long play action pass ? touchdown

Florida-17 Arkansas-7

4th Drive:
run-0 pass-1
*hail mary intercepted

End of Half: Florida- 17 Arkansas- 7

3rd Quarter
3 Drives
Runs- 10 Passes- 5

Leak throws an interception.

1st Drive (off of interception):
run-5 pass-2
*run stopped for minimal gain, end around for a few yards, end around for first down
*play action pass to endzone incomplete, end around for first down ? first and goal at the 6
*QB draw for few yards, slant pass for TD

Florida- 17 Arkansas- 14

2nd Drive:
run-2 pass-1
*run stopped for short gain, run stopped for short gain, play action pass deep incomplete, punt

Leak shovel pass intercepted and returned for TD

Florida- 17 Arkansas- 21

Florida looks like they?re dead but convert a fake punt deep in their own territory.

Leak fumbled, recovered by Florida.

Florida scores on muffed punt recovered in the endzone.

Florida- 24 Arkansas- 21
Huge, huge turn of events, it looked like Arkansas had Florida?s number, but a converted fake punt and a muffed punt and the momentum is back in Florida?s corner.

3rd Drive:
run-4 pass-2
*run for gain of about three, end around for minimal gain, complete pass ? first down
*run for about five, run for minimal gain, pass short of first down, (end of quarter) punt

End of Quarter: Florida- 24 Arkansas- 21

4th Quarter
3 Drives (plus one play to end game)
Runs- 8 Passes- 13

First play for Florida after punt long run for TD.

Florida- 31 Arkansas- 21

1st Drive:
run-1 pass-4
*play action pass complete across the middle ? first down
*draw for minimal gain, play action pass incomplete (heavy pressure), play action pass incomplete (pass interference) ? first down
*double pass for TD

Florida- 31 Arkansas- 28

Arkansas defense looks tired.

Florida marches down the field and scores easily.

Florida- 38 Arkansas- 28

2nd Drive:
run-1 pass-1
*penalty makes it first and fifteen, drawn for a few yards, pass (by McFadden on the run) intercepted

3rd Drive:
run-3 pass-7
*draw for big yards ? first down
*pass incomplete, wide receiver screen loss of yards, pass incomplete, (goes for it on fourth and long) pass intercepted (pass interference) ? first down
*draw for a few yards, (penalty loss of five yards) end around pass incomplete, screen for good yardage ? first down
*no gain run up the middle, play action pass intercepted in the endzone

Tebow runs out the clock.

Final Score: Florida- 38 Arkansas- 28

Okay, so now for my impressions. Firstly, Florida's defense is very good against the run. But Arkansas' play calling was terrible. Most of the time they ran it until they were forced to pass on third and long, and even then they were able to convert quite a few times when Florida was expecting pass.

I think we'll be able to pass to set up the run almost exactly like we did against Michigan. In fact, I see the game playing out in almost the exact same way: spread them out and move the ball down the field through the air, then run it down their throats. The only difference being that Florida's offense isn't nearly as good as Michigans.

Leak makes a lot of stupid mistakes, gets sacked a lot in the pocket, and is at his best only when he rolls out of the pocket. Florida's run game consisted almost entirely of getting nowhere up the middle or running an option/shuffle pass play with the QB. I can see Florida having success on us for awhile on offense because of all their gimmicks and roll out passes, and even could break a big play or two (they do have quality playmakers at WR) but once our defense adjusts to their style of play I think we can shut them down.

After breaking down that game I feel pretty confident. Like I said, I see the game playing out much the same way the Michigan game did, only Florida does not have a steady enough offense to continually answer us the way Michigan did.

I'm not going to make a score prediction because you never know exactly how games will go with turnovers and the like, but if we keep the mistakes to a minimum and play like we have been all year, we have a very solid shot at winning (not that anyone on this site needed to be told that).

And now it's bed time.
