Game Thread BCS Championship Game, tOSU vs. Florida - Jan 8th

I know we're a confident bunch of fans, but I fear we're sounding too much like the Miami fans back in 2002. UF isn't exactly going to roll over and play dead out there.

I've seen some confidence but nothing near the "you don't even belong on the same field with us" nonsense coming out of the scUM South circles in '02. Thus far I'm seeing much respect given to UF and their good work to earn a trip to Glendale.

True, a big difference however, is that Tressel isn't going to under-estimate Florida. Coker completely under-estimated the buckeyes and got punched in the mouth for it. :osu:

Well, first of all, let's hope we don't get those refs.

Just a few interesting points (some may have been mentioned previously):

1) Lets hope this game is either an OSU blowout or comes down to a situation in which Florida has to make a field goal to win. Their starting kicker is 4/13 on field goals this year with a long of 33 yards. That is horrendous.

2) Chris Leak has thrown 22 touchdowns and 13 interceptions this year. He has thrown at least one interception in 10 of Florida's 13 games. He didn't throw picks against: Western Carolina, Alabama, and Florida State.

Just some things that I thought were interesting.

I remember watching that game and just being amazed at the lousy calls. Of course, let us not forget that was a bowl season which gifted us the wonderful, wonderful Alamo Bowl. In fact, the Iowa FL game was just one of several with questionable officiating. (But Iowa - FL & the Alamo Bowl really took the cake).

I think we went to the Fiesta bowl last year...

I also remember the "offsides" on the onside kick. But I have to say that scUM vs. Nebraska game was the worst officiating I ever saw. It was the first time I actually felt sorry for scUM.

Methinks Sandgk wasn't using "us" to mean OSU but to mean, us as people who watched the Alamo bowl.

Hello, my name is Gatorhater, and I live in Gainesville, Florida. And yes, that means I have to live anonymously. I cheer for Illinois, and sports besides football at UF. That means for football, I'm big ten all the way. And crazy buckeye fan thanks to a friend's dad who is an alumni from the mid 70s.
I'll watch the game at home alone so I don't get killed by Gator drunks. Unless someone else lives down here who is hosting an OSU party?

Okay, on topic:

The two freshmen that contribute huge for UF are Percy Harvin and Tim Tebow. Florida will run special packages and trick plays to get the two involved. I bring it up because both of the above points are mitigated by Tebow. He comes in at QB on occasion, usually for a QB run. The problems with kicking field goals are solved by Tebow's almost unstoppable ability to pick up one and two yards per run. 4th and 1 keeps the offense on the field. Add 7 TD to Leak's 22 by virtue of Tebow's legs.

I predicted a 42-17 win over UF but I fully stand behind that. Plus, I've been accurate this season, minus the Illinois and scUM games(though, if we hadn't turned the ball over 3 times my prediction would've been pretty good).

When I look at both teams, I see a clearly superior team. Miami fans clearly underestimated the talent of that '02 team. It was loaded with future NFLers. IMHO, I don't think I'm underestimating Florida. Of course, I could look like an idiot if UF beats us but I'm sticking to my prediction.

I really don't think your RBs are anything special

Just to give this some perspective, Percy Harvin is a heck of an athlete but he was not the #1 rated recruit out of HS last year. Chris Wells was. And he is starting to play like it. And he is our back up.

I am not trying to hang my hat on recruiting service ratings - far from it. But if you have not watched these kids play each week I suggest you study a bit of film before you express such a cavalier opinion.

I have been around long enough to see Archie, Keith, Eddie, and Maurice - and Chris Wells is indeed something special.
