Game Thread BCS Championship Game, tOSU vs. Florida - Jan 8th

Future headline?

GATORS BURNED BY NORTHERN SPEED

"Gators Steamrolled by Cornfed Slowness" would be my guess, southern speed, like many things that the media enjoys hyping (preseason return to greatness for Notre Dame, for instance), just won't die.

I do remember that stat about your defense after TOs, that's really an incredible stats. For us, it's the exact opposite. Just about every point our defense has surrendered is after our offense turns it over, and we turn it over quite a bit. After a little research, it turns out that teams have scored a whopping 66 points off turnovers from UF, considering we've surrendered 165 points all year, that 66 points is quite a chunk.

This is what I was thinking about watching the SEC Championship Game. I was thinking that IF we match up against these guys, we are going to be able to force some mistakes (and they may even make some unforced ones). If we are able to do this, it will be blow out city. If Florida is able to play without turnovers, it will be close and field goal kicking will come into play. Either way, I like our chances.

As for the Tressel game plan, I think he opens it up on offense. scUM's strength was their D and basically Tress played that as a "you can't outscore us" game. I think he does the same thing with Florida. Had our opponent been USC, I think he would have more of a ball control, slow them down offense. Tressel's brilliance IMO is getting opponents to play his game. The only thing that makes me hesitate on this is UF's lack of a solid kicking game. If the game is close early in the second half, I think Tress buttons it up as we have the advantage in the kicking game.

Thanks Florida posters, your insights have been interesting to read.

WHY HASN'T Percy Harvin been brought up.
He's the reason florida beat arkansas.

Forgot his stats but, had 6 carries over 200 and caught at least 2 Td's.

He looked like another Ginn/manningham and we all know what manningham did against us in that scum/osu game so and our secondary can be abused from some speed/wr . Just a thought but, he looked like a freshman the same way Ginn did he's freshman year. Meyer might be another coach like Tressel who saves the oddest calls or players for the real big games.

And what was that? OSU defenses often give up points on the first drive. How did Mario do after they adjusted?

Meyer is a coach which runs odd plays all game long every week. It's the only way they manage to run the ball.

wasn't the adjustment it was Carr sucking as a coach and I hope he stays at scum for a long time.
Manningham was open all day but, they went with Hart since, they couldn't stop him either.

He hasn't been using Harvin NOTHING AT ALL compared to that last game. He could be a game breaker player.

Hi Buckeyes. Congrats on a great season!

I've only seen one OSU game this year, so I'm not sure what to expect from this game exactly, and I suspect you guys might feel the same way about UF. I will post some videos of highlights of the Gators, so you know what this team is about. It might not be what ESPN would like you to believe. :)

This first one is a great video (thanks CLF4L) of the strengths of our team -- Defense and Special Teams (with the exception of FG kicking).

I've seen Florida play several times this year. I guess it's an advantage of CBS having SEC rights. Where you guys get stuck with ACC games on ESPN/ABC down there.

From what I have seen this year. The Florida D is where you guys get your wins.
The O is adequate, but Leak was extremely shaky in the Auburn game, and can be rattled when pressured. The fumble that wasn't a fumble in that game is the only reason that you guys aren't undefeated this year, and is why I think that you guys should be in this game. My plea for USC this year was based on me thinking that they were a better team, but considereing that everyone in the country, except for the teams on our schedule, could supposedly have beaten the Buckeyes in 2002, I'd like to change my mind about USC being better than the Gators. As for Michigan. Been there. Done that. I'm over it.

Nice season, and good luck keeping it close.

congrats to your gators for a great season, winning the sec, and earning the right to play for the nc. :)

if the one game you saw was the scum game, thats pretty much exactly what you can expect from our offense. we're as comfortable in the power I as we are in a 5 wr set. which is what i think will give your d the most difficulty. i doubt you have faced an offense that will run as many different plays from as many different formations as we will. not to mention that tressel generally seems to save a handful of plays specifically for the scum game and the bowl game. so i can say with considerable confidence we will all see a couple of plays we've never seen before. :p

if florida can force turnovers and or get troy out of his game, then i think florida has a good shot. the key imo will not be just getting pressure on troy. but getting to troy early, often, and finishing the play. which is a heck of a lot easier said than done. troy has made a heisman campaign of shedding a sure tackle to buy time in order to fire a frozen rope to a wr for a td.

as far as the d, if you want an idea of how to exploit our young d... noone did a better job than scum did. we came into that game the #1 d in the country in points allowed, were near the top in turnovers forced, had never given up a score of any type after a turnover, and had really dominated the last 5 or so offenses we came across including 1 shut out. the key here i think is the same, the lines. if florida can win in the trenches and stay balanced, they have a good shot at giving our d fits.

from the sounds of things, this will be a classic matchup of strength vrs. strength and assumed weakness vrs. assumed weakness. i think its going to be very interesting to see how it plays out.

This really looks like it will be a lower scoring game, for UF that is.

I'm not trying to disrespect UF, they have an athletic group there's no denying this, but their lack of experience will show. If not for that bonehead play (fielding the over-the-shoulder punt) in the 3rd q/4th q? and resluting in a TD it's a different game.

I know you can say every play (esp. big plays) drastically affect the outcome of the game and it's true. I'm sure they would have fought their way back into that game somehow:bow: , but that was a very lucky break to get them back into it.

I can't say it won't happen in the NC, but we haven't exactly been plagued with turnovers and I don't see it happening in Glendale. If the UF fan is only looking at the scUM game and saying three turns = 10 pts. First, the INT should have been an obvious pass interference. :grr: (esp. the way those refs were calling ticky tack PI calls on OSU) The two scUM defenders had our WR tackled before the ball even got there. :smash:

And two bad snaps to Troy, which I don't remember seeing all year, will be fixed by January. Tress told me so personally:tongue2: , just kidding. I'm confident that can be resolved.

In all honesty, I have watched UF play all year (ESPN Game Plan) and I'm not impressed. :shake: Their WR/tailback Percy Harvin is definitely a threat but so were Wolfe, Manningham and Sutton. That turned out OK.

I think it will be some where around 17-7 in the first half but our O-line wears em down in the second half and we pull away....

37-13 good guys.:osu:

florida has received the second most penalties this season at 111. at 112, akron has the most. there is a precipitous drop from florida to arizona state and south florida, which have 98. the next gap is from 98 to 94 (uab); otherwise, the teams are stacked the rest of the way down (except for northwestern, which has the least and 8 fewer than the next team).

ohio state is tied for 98th with 57 penalties. so, florida has received nearly twice as many penalties this season than ohio state has.

Hopefully Pitcock and Patterson will practice catching those shovel passes - but then again maybe FL will scrap that play.

I don't think FL's O-line is anything like scUM's - they won't be able to run the ball on us - unless it's trick plays. If we make them one-dimensional, which I'm sure Heacock will be trying to do, then Leak is in for a rough day, ala Auburn.

If we spread them out, like we usually do, then we should be able to run or pass. There won't be any sideline-to-sideline stuff on that FL D though.

Do the FL folks think their stud CB is going to shut down Ginn one-on-one?
God, I hope the coaches do.

How is it possible to be this jacked up already. The game is over a month away.
Fla is young and has speed, However if they lose their poise this could be ugly. I don't look for this but it is possible.
I have seen Fla a few times this year also and I have seen their offense in a state of panic almost. If we get pressure with the down linemen, Urban can get ready for another lesson from Ohio.
On offense tOSU has no equal. We execute a gameplan that is in itself a battering ram against all of our opponents. In all but 3 of our games the first string was out early.
I have never seen so many players play meaningful minutes in 50 years of being a fan.
People have talked about our 5 wr's . I look for Small to be back.

The bottom line is no one can stop our offense. The football fields that are on the road to the NC game are lined with the bodies of the fallen stars from other teams who have tried to stop Smith, Ginn, Gonzo, Pittman and Wells.

Can theirs be stopped by our D?

(chuckle, snort, tee hee.)

Woody is up there in coaches heaven exhorting the troops already;
"You guys know we can win this game, The winner isn't the most talented, or the smartest, or the biggest. It's the team that works the hardest, that prepares the most, that wants it the most"
God Bless you Wayne Woodrow Hayes.
