Baylor Bears (official thread)

Art Briles' firing a mark of a new era in college football

Mark this day down. Turn the corner of this page in the college football family bible. Someone in the gridiron-industrial complex stood up and said some standards are more important than winning.

So winning ISN'T the most important thing at Baylor? I'm pretty sure that's why this whole mess began and continued for as long as it did in the first place. They only fired Briles because all of the shit they caught for it from the media nationwide. But lets paint Baylor as some heroes for "doing the right thing," afterall, that's what they're known for. Great piece, ESPN.

One confusing part of the article...

Sure, Alabama and Ohio State have won the two College Football Playoffs. But the cross-pollination between the College Football Playoff rankings and the programs with the top NCAA graduation rates has never been higher. Stanford, Northwestern and Duke, academic powerhouses all, are contending for and winning championships.

Contending for? And winning? Championships? I assume they mean in football? Okay...

Maybe Stanford? They won the Pac12 in memory. Duke made a conference championship. Northwestern isn't even competing for anything. Not sure how they get included.

no, its correct actually. 1 of them has won a conference championship, 1 of them once competed for a conference championship and 1 of them had a higher score than their opponent at one point during a game (ie "winning").

I understand that Briles had to go, and Ok, cool...But how's bout we put some of these rapists in jail. Seems at least as important as firing a football coach...Just sayin'.

they are working on putting the third one in prison as we speak,no?

As bad as it is, Baylor is light years out in front of Penn State and FSU.

I amused by their thread of potential coaching hires. It hasn't sunk into some that their job will be toxic at least while investigations hang over there head and probably for 5+ years. Some seem to think Tom Herman would go for that dumpster fire. Not to Baylorfans there is a 95% chance he would have turned your job down without scandal let alone this mess
