Bat-Poop Crazy Pat Robertson Is Bat-Poop Crazy Yet Again

Stolen from the intarwebs, author unknown.

Dear Pat Robertson,

I know that you know that all press is good press,
so I appreciate the shout-out.
And you make God look like a big mean
bully who kicks people when they are
down, so I'm all over that action.

But when you say that Haiti has made a pact with me, it is
totally humiliating.
I may be evil incarnate, but I'm no welcher. The
way you put it, making a deal
with me leaves folks desperate and
impoverished.

Sure, in the afterlife, but when I strike bargains with
people, they first get
something here on earth -- glamour, beauty,
talent, wealth, fame, glory,
a golden fiddle. Those Haitians have
nothing, and I mean nothing. And that
was before the earthquake.
Haven't you seen "Crossroads"? Or "Damn Yankees"?

If I had a thing going with Haiti, there'd be lots of
banks, skyscrapers, SUVs,
exclusive night clubs, Botox -- that kind of
thing. An 80 percent poverty rate is so
not my style. Nothing against
it -- I'm just saying: Not how I roll.

You're doing great work,
Pat, and I don't want to clip your wings -- just,
come on, you're
making me look bad. And not the good kind of bad.
Keep blaming God.
That's working. But leave me out of it, please.
Or we may need to
renegotiate your own contract.

Best, Satan

It speaks to the number of "bat-[censored]-crazy" people in this country.

We all should have realized that by now.

I'd hardly say that those who discredit Pat Robertson by and large have any interest in discrediting religion. His brand of "religion," sure. But many of us who are faithful Christians find Robertson's teachings often to be execrable.

One of the things I find saddest about Robertson's ministry is that his all-too-frequent hate-filled rants can obscure the genuine good and humanitarian acts that he has promoted and executed. It's hard sometimes not to be a stumbling block to the faith of others; Robertson hasn't avoided that pit, on way too many occasions.

BTW, scooter, if you're trying to say that "at least Robertson isn't as bat-shit crazy as Hugo Chavez," that's really damning with very faint (almost invisible) praise.

Religion should not be discredited because Pat is a nut-job, but that is the sad fallout. Since his persona is "Religious guy", his failings have a fallout on anyone who is looking at religion with a "should I participate in this?" mindset.

I wasn't talking about those who seek to discredit Robertson (I'm one of them considering I gave a sermon this weekend at my congregation showing how what he said doesn't line up with Scripture); I was referring to those who seek to elevate him as those he is still the most prominent "religious" person in the United States--a position he hasn't been anywhere close to for a good 15 years IMO.

Fair enough, and you and I don't disagree on this one. One could paraphrase you (I believe) that those who are trying to discredit religion find Robertson to be an attractive target, and I agree. I was trying to say that there is plenty of reason for people of faith to criticize Robertson; you kind of proved my point, having done so yourself. :)

But Robertson shares the same values and beliefs as a large percentage of the population even though he may not be their religious leader (beliefs such as natural disasters are caused by God, that we are a Christian nation and those beliefs should permeate government and public schools, etc.). And that's what makes him Bat-Poop Crazy.

Maybe I'm missing something here, but I don't see anyone saying that Robertson isn't nuts.

What your statement seems to imply is you think everyone who is religious is "bat-poop" crazy.

The term "religious" covers a broad spectrum of beliefs, but yep - in general I think most religious people are Bat-Poop Crazy.
