Barry Bonds (Juiced Merge)

This is such a convenient time to have an injury that will make miss at least half the season. So he'll be able to come back after the injury weighing 40 lbs less and blame it on the fact that he couldn't work out... not that fact that he is off roids. He tired off his kids crying?? Bonds brought this on himself.

Unlike most of you, I've always been a Giant fan and hope Bonds returns healthy real soon. I did see an amusing SI story that he reinjured his knee slippling on a stack of nasty news clippings:

"Giants slugger Barry Bonds said Tuesday he might miss the entire season following his latest knee surgery. He saved his choicest words for the media, saying, "You guys wanted to hurt me bad enough, you finally got me." Indeed, Bonds apparently wrenched his knee by slipping on a stack of nasty news clippings."

If true, how ironic: the media strikes back!!!

More on Bonds in the article:

The Barry Bonds family isn't exactly camera-shy.

It's not a secret that Bonds is no media favorite, primarily because he treats members of the press as if they're a lower life form. His latest bizarre outburst won't do much to mend any fences. The most offensive part of his interview was the way that Bonds used his 15-year-old son, Nikolai, in an effort to portray the media as the heavy and Bonds and his family as the victims. Just in case anyone missed the symbolism of Bonds showing up with his son, he actually asked to include Nikolai in the camera's glare. With a cameraman pulled in for a tight shot on Bonds -- after all, he's the baseball player and public figure -- the slugger asked, "Can you get my son in this too, not just on me?" Then, lest anyone miss his point, he added: "So you can show the pain that you're causing my whole family." Please. Bonds is in a mess of his own creation. Did the media invent the BALCO investigation? Or concoct the mistress that reportedly testified to a grand jury last week that he told her he used steroids back in 2000? If we did, I must confess I missed that meeting.

Bonds Gets Standing Ovation (huh?)

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- Barry Bonds received a 1-minute standing ovation from the sellout crowd and emphatically declared "I will be back!" when introduced before the Giants' opener Tuesday.

The injured slugger was presented with four awards before San Francisco's 4-2 win over the Dodgers, including his record seventh NL MVP award, the NL batting title and Silver Slugger award. He tipped his hat and waved in all directions to the crowd at SBC Park. At one point, appearing emotional, he buried his face in his hat.

"I'm speechless and I want to thank my family for being behind me for all these years," he said. "I thank God for the blessings he's given me to be able to play this game. Last but not least, I thank the city of San Francisco. I thank these fans. There are no better fans in the world."

After accepting his awards, he pointed to the sky and the seats as he walked into the dugout.

Highlights of his 2004 accomplishments were shown on the giant video screen in center field before he received his awards.

Frustrated with his health and stressed out from the steroid controversy surrounding him, Bonds is on the 15-day disabled list as he recovers from two operations on his ailing right knee. He believes it may force him to miss half the season or the entire year. Once he's healthy, he will resume his chase of Babe Ruth and Hank Aaron for the career home crown.

As always, Bonds relaxed in his black leather recliner before the game, chatting on his cell phone and watching TV. He walked gingerly -- showing no signs of a limp -- through the clubhouse to the training room for rehabilitation work on his knee.

Manager Felipe Alou, whose team is favored to win the NL West, said Tuesday he knew from the first day of spring training the likelihood that Bonds wouldn't be ready by opening day despite the team's optimism Bonds would be in the lineup.

"We've been playing without him for six weeks," Alou said. "We knew from Day 1 he was not going to be with us. We know what we have to do. ... We knew Barry would work so hard to be here today, but I wasn't counting on Barry. If he did, it was really a bonus."

The 40-year-old Bonds has 703 home runs, 11 behind Ruth (714) and 52 from tying Aaron (755). Bonds batted .362 last season with 45 homers and 101 RBIs and also walked 232 times on the way to another MVP award.

This is just the third time in his career he's gone on the disabled list and the first since April 18 to June 9, 1999, as he recovered from elbow surgery.

When Bonds is ready to play again, it is unclear whether he would go on a minor league assignment before returning to the Giants. The slugger will likely have a say in that.

"Most veteran players do," Alou said. "He's walking OK. We need more than that. He's here early every day."

Bonds' former teammate Jeff Kent, now wearing Dodger Blue and batting cleanup for Los Angeles, didn't mind that Bonds wasn't playing.

"Any time you can have one of the best players not playing it's a great thing," he said.

How can the fans of the Giants actually give this man a standing ovation? Its so hilarious to me that San Fran fans would actually cheer this liar.

Just my opinion to all San Fran fans out there.

It is the homer syndrome. Just like when Albert/Joey Belle was with the Indians. As soon as he was gone he was a jerk and idiot. Even though he was a jerk the whole time he was with the Indians.

SF Giant fans aren't stupid. With Bonds they are in the playoffs and can win a championship. Without him they are nothing. Plus you have all the expiring millionaire boaters who want to get a historic ball at their own ballpark.

Exactly.

What did some of you expect Giants fans to do, boo their best player off the field because you happen to think he's a jerk?

I got two words for any Indians fan that wants to criticize the Giants' fans in this instance: Albert Belle.

Corked Bat, Horrible Attitude, Alcoholic, Three run-down Trick or Treaters, and a Partridge in a Pear Tree .. I don't blame the Giants fans at all.

I don't blame Giants fans, either, so why are you quoting me in this post? I agree with you, and I'm not an Indians fan.
