Bey’s coachabilty is incredible. Anyone who has coached or raised children can attest that the mistakes are one thing, but being coachable, accountable, and correcting your mistakes is what it’s all about. We all make mistakes but owning up to them and building from them is everything:

  • Day said he was disappointed that Legend Bey took the kickoff out of the end zone twice when he wasn’t supposed to, but “you can see the talent.” “He’s got a good attitude when it comes to being corrected ... It’s his job to continue to work to get better.”

The most interesting numbers from Ohio State’s 56-3 win over Ball State

There were some pretty interesting numbers that came out of Saturday’s destruction of the Cardinals by the Buckeyes.

Ohio State’s victory over Ball State was the 27th consecutive season-opening win for the Buckeyes, which is the longest active streak in the country. The last time Ohio State lost in their first game of the season came against the Miami Hurricanes in the Kickoff Classic in 1999. The 27 straight wins also tie Florida for the second-longest winning streak in season openers in Division I history. The Buckeyes now just need wins in their next two season openers to tie Nebraska’s streak of 29 straight from 1986 to 2014.

Just a few brief notes....

1. Ohio State had three TD drives of 90+ yards, and also had TD drives of 83 yards and 75 yards.

2. Ohio State had four explosive TDs (20+ yards) on offense: receptions of 25 yards (Legend Bey) and 48 yards (Jeremiah Smith), and runs of 49 yards (Ja'Kobi Jackson) and 65 yards (Bo Jackson). The last time that the Buckeyes had four explosive scores in the same game was against Oregon (and also Tennessee) in the 2024 Playoffs.

3. Five players scored their first Buckeye touchdowns: Ja'Kobi Jackson (run of 49 yards); Legend Bey (reception of 25 yards); Devin McCuin (reception of 17 yards); Chris Henry Jr (reception of 15 yards); and Julian Sayin (run of 3 yards).

On his TD catch and run he looked Braxton Milleresg with the ball in his hands. He has a great jump cut like Braxton and Dobbins.

Ohio State started the game with an offensive line of Moore at left tackle, Montgomery at left guard, Hinzman at center, Siereveld at right guard and Daniels at right tackle. After some early struggles by Daniels, Siereveld kicked out to right tackle for Ohio State’s third and fourth drives of the game, with VanSickle entering the lineup at right guard. Daniels returned for Ohio State’s fifth possession and stayed in for the rest of the snaps with the starters from that point forward, but Day said competition will continue along the offensive line.

After Sayin and the starters came out of the game, the offensive line for the rest of the second half consisted of Lowe at left tackle, Cook at left guard, Padilla at center, VanSickle at right guard and Armstrong at right tackle.

Alford was a surprise starter for the Buckeyes as Ohio State opened the game in a 4-3 defense, and he ended up playing the most snaps among linebackers, earning Ohio State’s defensive player of the game award with five tackles and an interception. Alliegro and Pierce started alongside Alford, but Pettijohn also rotated in with the starters and ended up playing the second-most snaps among linebackers, recording a team-high six tackles, as Alford and Pettijohn played into the fourth quarter with the second-team defense.

Seven other linebackers, led by Stover, saw playing time late in the game as James Laurinaitis played deep into his bench. The only linebackers who didn’t get on the field in the season opener were five-star freshman Cincere Johnson, sophomore Eli Lee and walk-on freshman Na’il Diggs Jr.
