Atlantic Coast Conference (Official Thread)

Sounds like an old fashioned 'Green Mail' type of ploy. Rattle your saber, and then settle, as the far cheaper road than litigation. Surprised that the FSU and Clemson didn't try the 'Texas Channel' as a way of monetizing their (assumed) popularity. Guess they don't have the kind of stroke that Texas does. Or the channels said, "oh hell no" to them. The Buckeyes and Xichigan could have played that card decades ago, but didn't. Was pretty certain before, but now am absolutely certain, that these two schools are not worthy of being in the B10. Can't imagine that the SEC hierarchy feels much differently than this 'all-for-me' attitude.

Of course the ACC would think of such an idiotic idea. Essentially their butthurt that SMU won the conference but lost the championship game and it affected their CFP seeding. So they're considering having the regular season champion sit out the conference championship, and having the #2 and #3 teams in the conference play the conference championship. But that's not a conference championship then. If Clemson wins the regular season, sits out the ACCCG, and say a #11 ranked Free Shoes plays a #24 Wake Forest and WF wins. ACC would only get 1 team in the CFP then. In the ACC that scenario is much more realistic to happen, which is baffling why they'd want to shoot themselves in the foot.

Yeah congrats on making the worst decision possible there. I wait for them to implement it and then go all shocked Pikachu when their 2ns or 3rd team doesn't make it

This is along the lines of what we were talking about with the CCG's being absolutely useless with the advent of the CFP expanded playoffs.

Making it a play-in game (somehow) makes a lot of sense to me.

And who says ACC/Big 8 conference champs are going to get an automatic pick? I think that's over. The Big Ten and the SEC are going to have a great deal to say in the 2025 meetings. One thing is certain, the CCGs have to go.

Makes too much money and still gives programs More trophies to put in their departments and use to brag to recruits, other programs, and gets players more stuff. That’s the best way I can word it. Hard to see colleges give up a game check, especially a big one to say someone won a shiney trophy.

Though I agree that they are useless, I just don’t see commissioners even all the coaches agreeing to no CCGs. For example Clemson can say they won the conference, SMU can say they got there. Oregon can say they won the B1G in their first season, etc

I wasn't proposing no CCG's. I agree they make too much money.

I would consider something like this from the B1G this year
-Oregon is #1 in the CFP before the final poll so they don't play
-Any team in the, say, top 6 gets to sit out as well
-take the next two team and let them have a play-in (anyone in the 6-12 range or on the bubble

So you end up with a play in game between OSU and IU or Penn State and IU (I forget what the rankings were). Some years it might help you out as a conference, some years it might bite you.

There is no perfect solution given what we have to work with but the CFP is a reality and the CCG's likely are as well. Might as well get creative with them because games like the B1G CCG this year were of no value to anyone but advertisers.

It won’t change for next season, since it would require unanimous approval, but in 2026 I’m guessing it will go to 14 teams with the top-2 teams getting the byes. And the CCG winners won‘t be guaranteed byes.
