Apple Software & Mac Hardware news

You can still swipe to unlock. There's a setting to change it back I believe. Search th interwebs.
negative the only thing I found was creating a backup with some ibackup tool then going in and modifying the one of the backup files then repushing it. If it was my phone i wouldn't hesitate... i'm not doing that with my wifes.

mines about the same...

dreading moving the wife over because of the new lock screen :(

really hope they bring back an option for swipe to unlock

Lulz that I have the exact same issue with my wife. I updated, and it take a bit to get used the new technique but she tried it once and refuses to do the update now. But, once she does it (she'll bitch and moan for a while, a LOT), and gets used to it, she'll act like its the most amazing thing ever. She's no fan of tech changes and I'm not a big fan of dealing with them with her

Not a fan of the new IOS personally. As with others, the wife is not going to like it at all. The new lock screen is a real pain. Both my daughter and I are seeing significant issues with battery life since the upgrade. She has a 6 and I have 5 but my take is the battery life is about 50% of what it was in previous IOS versions.

You need to turn off all the background updates for the apps, and your battery life will skyrocket.

I noticed the latest update overwrote my old protocols and turned all of the background updates on again.

Of course my MBP would decide to shit itself two days before I go on vacation (when I need it for photos)! Opened it up this morning and was greeted by a screen of a vertical blue stripes pattern, and now it won't boot, even after resetting PRAM/NVRAM. Going to see if I can get it to boot into recovery mode and my Windows partition between meetings today and hope it was just a graphics card glitch.

Anyone else think Safari 10 is absolute garbage? I had to make the switch to Chrome on my Macbook....I couldn't take the issues with Flash & Java any longer.

Thought it was fixed after a visit to an Apple Store, but a few days into the trip it stopped booting again. Took it back to the Apple Store today and it failed the hardware test for the GPU immediately, so now it's having the logic board replaced. Can't start processing my DC photos until I get it back next week. Ugh.

On the other hand I will be all ears for the Mac event next week to see what they change up with the MBP and iMac.

Disappointed there was no update/refresh for the iMac, but the Touch Bar looks great. The thought of having Touch Bar functionality in Lightroom after watching the Photoshop demo has me ridiculously excited. I bet they're waiting to update the iMac when they get to a point where the Touch Bar is functional in a separate, wireless keyboard.

yeah... I was wanting a new Mac mini... I've got a behemoth I've been running for almost 10 years now... looking to upgrade/switch... not sure if i'll make the jump or not.

$1700 for a laptop with a touch bar.... 8gb and a 256 ssd all non upgradable... that'll sell like sand in the desert.

You're describing it's actual value, not it's marketability. People were pretty pumped about the retina-screen chromebook they released not too long ago.

I love the touchbar addition (and it's one of the few Apple-style innovations in awhile). It would be phenomenal for so many different things...

...but as always, their quality and innovation is suffocated by extreme pricing and outdated hardware. Maybe someday I'll make enough money to throw it away on Apple devices (I doubt any amount of wealth will change my cheapness ), but if that were to happen, I think I'd own the gorgeous new Surface desktop that MS just announced.

For 1500 (<1300 on sale), I can get a 6700k, 16 gb ram (upgradeable to 32), 1 TB + 256 nvME SSD, 8 gb 1070 GTX, 1920 ips 15.6" Asus ROG Strix. After a year of research, I opted for the slightly older ROG Strix model from costco with a 980 GTX (with a free FOUR year warranty and 90 day trial period).

For 700-1000, I can get all of the above features but a slower GPU and no SSD (and it's $80-150 to add the SSD). That slower GPU still runs laps around the pithy offerings in the macbooks.

For 1700, Apple wants to sell me (the PC equivalent of) a $650 laptop + a sweet screen, keyboard and touch bar? :(

Yeah thats why I was hoping for a mac mini update... Jony's obession with shrinking everything and integrating everything is annoying...

I was hoping to get a laptop so I dont have to haul around my work laptop which is a 6lb desktop replacement

If I can find a buyer @ $1200 for my current 13" 2015-model MBP (gently used, only 96 cycles), I'll gladly drop $1800 on the new one.

Removal of the SD card slot is a bit of a bummer though.

You're paying a premium for the user experience and ecosystem. Some people think it's worth it, others don't.

Jony Ive needs to stop reinventing the fucking keyboard and mouse tho, cause they suck. Every iteration since the damn hockey puck on the iMac has sucked, and the Magic Mouse might be the worst ever.

Is it too much to ask for a numeric keypad on a 15" MBP? Good lord this is really starting to piss me off.
