Latest iOS 9.2 beta turns all your Apple devices into phones with AT&T NumberSync
AT&T customers using iPhones will likely be the first to try AT&T NumberSync: A way for OS X and iOS devices to place and receive phone calls even if Airplane Mode is on for their handset.

That didn't take long.

Last month, AT&T announced its NumberSync initiative; a way to route phone calls over Wi-Fi networks to computers and tablets. The feature is appearing this week in the latest iOS 9.2 beta 2 software.

9to5 Mac spotted and tested the feature after installing the iOS 9.2 beta 2 software on an iPhone.

The setup process looks simple and reminds me of how you enable Wi-Fi Calling on an AT&T iPhone. You'll need to verify your address for emergency 911 services before using NumberSync.

After configuring the function, your iPhone doesn't even need to be on AT&T's cellular network for you to accept or place calls on a supported Mac or iPad.

Cont'd ...

So you can have it on "don't connect to the cell network" and still have it ring you from the network you didn't want to be connected to?

The number is transposed at the network level by AT&T, so all your devices can answer or initiate a call over any IP network that AT&T can route. It does not require BT peering, sharing at the same WAP, or even an iPhone at all. It's platform agnostic.

You could, for example, mask your phone number to your LAN-lined PC or to your car.

I just got a Macbook Air this weekend. Coming from windows is there anything I must have/know? I already set up icloud on my windows 10 machine so that my bookmarks sync from chrome.

One thing I'd like to have is pincode unlock like w10 has, does anyone know if that's possible?

Prepare to the OS treating you like you are a 12 year old. Other than that, you're fine.

Anyone have any issues with data usage on the iPhone over a Verizon network? One of our three phones is having large gb of data being used at very odd times, according to the Verizon data usage information. The really odd part of this is that the time this is occuring the phone is on a wireless network. This just started happening this month. I checked the phone to see if it had been jailbroken, but it doesn't appear that is the case. Call to Verizon tomorrow I guess....

I know this is old, but it should still be valid.

Verizon is just recently being accused of showing data utilization fraudulently for mobile devices. Customers are claiming to have been suspicious of this so they turned their phones off and then noticed Verizon showing data utilization for that device during those hours.

Liking the new features in iOS 10. One issue I have noticed, and have several friends that agree, is battery life seems worse.

Anyone else update yet and experience any issues?

I talked to Verizon and they claimed that there was no way someone could steal our data. They also claimed that the usage was various programs, mostly social media, that update during certain times. We tried turning off the phone and I checked the data usage the next day and it appeared that there was no usage. I just find it odd that we have never had any data usage issues and then bam in one month the usage goes off the charts with no change on our side. I am going to continue to monitor this going forward.
