Apple Confirms March 2 iPad Event

The leaked iPad event just got confirmed by Apple by way of them sending out invites. Usually it's not this obvious what Apple's announcements are about, but this has the corner of an iPad right there in the image.

Not interested so much in what features the new iPad has as how much the price drops on the first gen line to make room.

$139 Kindles & $549 flip-screen netbooks changed the game for Apple quite a bit, IMHO.

$499 iPads just don't seem so super now.

I used to be an Engadget reader. When I got my iPhone about a year ago I switched to Gizmodo because they app reviews and coverage.

The Gawker redesign is garbage though. On my laptop it's unwieldy and their mobile site hasn't worked for me at all. I've had to hide a bunch of Flash garbage over and over just to read entries. The app reviews and news have seemed to become less frequent and of lower quality. I've been trying to switch to something else over the last couple weeks - Engadget, Ars Technica, Tech Crunch, etc. Nothing has really taken hold yet.

Reading Engadget today though, I realized how much I missed reading Crapgadget and Keepin' it Real Fake entries.

Summary of the iPad announcement:

iPad 2 will ship on March 11, available in black or white. Same storage options as previous gen. Upgraded A5 processor while maintaining similar power consumption to previous gen. Front (VGA) and rear (720p) cameras. Thinner form factor and lighter weight. Support for FaceTime, iMove & Garage Band. HDMI-out with adapter (sold separately).

Previous gen 16 GB wi-fi model was given a price drop to $399 (new) $349 (refurb)

All of my Apple devices, iPods, iPhone, have always been white. I'm glad to see they're getting back into some white devices have having gotten away from it for a while. I guess it's because I started out with the old iPods, but when I think of Apple devices, I think white. I've been hesitant to upgrade my iPod classic because of that. I hope they come back around with a white iPhone sometime this year.

Recently got a iTouch as a gift and am impressed by the technology. I added Skype and now it can function as a phone.(WiFi)
My favorite thing is the Internet Radio app. Tunein Radio.
Terrific as a media player!

What I don't like is the tiny keyborad and how the screen collects finger prints. Needs a stylist. Actually an iPad would be much more usable for internet/phone use. But the iTouch is a media player first and a damn good one.

Picked up the iPad2 today. I have carried the iPhone 4 since July of last year so I am familiar with the iOS. I have to say, I am in love with the iPad 2. The experience is smooth and the apps are great. The home sharing is sweet. Haven't quite figured out a comfortable way to type yet, but I am sure I will adapt soon.

Black or white? I'm curious to see how the screen looks surrounded by white bezel.

Ah. The articles I've read have recommended black. I've always preferred white iDevices - going back to the original clickwheel iPods. I guess I'll have to check them both out at the Apple Store. I was very skeptical about iPads at first, but after buying into iOS with my first iPhone and having played with them a bit I'm thinking about picking one up with my tax return.

Like I said I have had the iPhone 4 and am okay with it. But the iPad takes it the next level for me. Loved having bpSpy running switching back and forth with Scorecenter XL and twitter during the game.

I wouldn't get the white one because they are for sissy females :wink2:

Seriously, though I didn't see a white one at the Apple store last night so I can't really comment on how it looks.
