Apple iPad, Android, other tablet displays

I went to the local Best Buy sunday morning and snagged a 32 gig and 16 gig Touchpad. Cant beat that price. Never been a fan of tablets but I have to say I am quite impressed. Also, the ohio valley is the ONLY place in the country where you have something reduced this much, and there ISNT a line at the door of best buy.

First of all, credit goes to the original, the iCade:

The iCade, which communicates with the iPad over Bluetooth, offers for a surprisingly faithful arcade experience with clicky buttons and a solid joystick. They feel just like real buttons; they sound just like real buttons. It's also nice just to be able to play a game on your iPad without cradling it in your lap or laying it flat on the table. The iCade, which isn't actually a dock so much as a stand, nevertheless lets your iPad just chill out as a display for gaming, as opposed to making it pull display-and-input double duty. It's a much different experience, and one that really expands the iPad's capacity for gaming.
Ion Audio's teaming up with Atari for the first run of iCade-compatible games—Asteroids was the one I tried, a solid port of the original—though Atari's working on bringing their entire library to the iPad and iCade (those without the iCade hardware will be able to enjoy the games with on-screen controls). Ion Audio's looking to work with other developers to create further iCade-compatible games, too.
You'll be able to pick up an iCade for $99 this spring.
Now the follow up:

Last weekend I used my iPad as a second screen for football with the WatchESPN app, and used my laptop for reading and posting to BP. Since getting the iPad, I have used it as my primary home computer about 80% of the time, and my laptop has been consigned strictly to the desk in my home office.

Having used my laptop on my lap for the first time in several weeks, it only reinforced my strong desire to not go back. While the typing is better, it is big, clunky, must be tethered to a wall outlet and gets unbearably hot with little more than bpSpy and the SI.com college football scoreboard going. I tried running BTN2go on it, and it damn near killed the thing.

I'd love to be able to ditch the laptop even on Saturdays, perhaps with the aid of a Bluetooth keyboard to facilitate typing on the iPad - but then I'd lose my second screen.

Oh, and on another football related note - Yahoo recently updated their fantasy football app - it is now universal.

Saw a guy using his ipad as a second monitor in class the other day. Looked awesome.

I got bored today and thought I'd try again to get home sharing to work between my laptop and iPad. Every time I had tried it before, I was able to get it working, but it would time out whenever the iPad went to sleep, and I'd have to either disable & re-enable Home Sharing in iTunes on my laptop, or I'd have to reboot it completely. While it technically works, it was such a hassle that it wasn't worth it.

I resorted to Google Music. It's free and gave me access to my entire music collection without worrying about storage limitations. While Google Music synced with iTunes, it was only one-way. If I deleted something from iTunes, I also had to manually delete it with Google. I was managing parallel music collections.

By late this afternoon, I was at my wits' end trying to figure this out. I had read one hint by a person who said they had success once they updated the firmware on their router. I gave it a go, and bricked the damn thing. I tried for while to bring it back from the dead with some hints I had found after hooking up directly to my modem, but saw no signs of life. The old thing was a Wireless-G router from six years ago, so I bit the bullet and ran out to buy a new one. Got it set up, and not only am I back online with a better router, but Home Sharing is working flawlessly.

Long story short: Home Sharing does not play nice with old routers.
