Appalachian State 34, Michigan 32 (Final!)

I had gone to BW3 to watch the Buckeye game (they were playing Youngstown State on BTN, and TWC didn't have BTN until the following season). Michigan took control late in the game and the wife and I had things to do, so we gave up on the game after Hart scored what I thought was a winning touchdown. I figured that a close-scare was a moral loss for Michigan, which was good enough when they're #5 and talking about running through the Big Ten. We went to Best Buy for who-remembers-what, and some guy walking out as we're walking in told me that Michigan lost. My wife still remembers it, thinking it's crazy that 1. some random guy decided to approach us to tell us that, and 2. that he though we'd care, and 3. that he was right.

Sitting on the couch at home for this in front of our first wide screen plasma. Thought I was in heaven.

I have distinct memories of wrestling with wanting Appy to win but wondering just how bad the fallout would be for the B1G. I was totally conflicted... Until...

the...

blocked kick.

I jumped off the couch screaming. No more conflict.

I was back in Ohio for a visit. Me and a buddy had gone to a sports bar to watch tOSU/YSU. After that, we moved on to another sports bar to have a drink with a buddy. scUM had just scored the go ahead TD, and being the fools we were, decided that was that and left. I dropped my buddy off, headed back to my parents' house and logged onto BP. I then proceeded to collapse into a pile of quivering glee as I read what had unfolded immediately after we left. Good times.

This was loss number 3 in a row for Michigan. They lost to Ohio State in 2006, then to USC in the Rose Bowl, then Appy State.

Since and including losing to Ohio State, Michigan is 50-41.

I don't normally post but I'll never forget this moment either. I was actually a groomsmen in my scUM buddies wedding that day. The wedding was set to commence only minutes after the end of the game. I remember being in a church in Chicago and all of us guys huddled around a radio listening. When the block happened, I was pretty sure the groom might throw up. Needless to say I had a HUGE grin on my face during that whole ceremony. He looked like he was going to a funeral and his wife (now ex) was none too happy with his demeanor.
