Appalachian State 34, Michigan 32 (Final!)

In the six years before 2007, U-M was 55-20. In the six years after 2007, Michigan is 41-35. Michigan is 1-5 against Michigan State and 1-5 against Ohio State during that stretch. The program has endured two head coaches, five major NCAA violations and is feeling the effects of a dwindling ticket base.

The past six years have produced half the number of NFL draftees of the previous six. After nearly 40 years as one of college football's powers, Michigan is no longer at the forefront of the conversation.

The beginning of the descent was Sept. 1, 2007.

Furthermore, in both of those wins, they barely pulled it off by less than one touchdown. (2 pts. & 6 pts., respectively.)

Who says there's no "L" in M*ch*g*n?

In the six years after 2007...Michigan is...1-5 against Ohio State...The beginning of the descent was Sept. 1, 2007.
That statistic is misleading in that it lacks important context.

Because Michigan was also 1-5 against Ohio State in the six years before 2007.
Pretty sure this is when the descent began.
Probably true, and then the hirings of Dantonio and Rodriguez just cemented it.

I don't normally post but I'll never forget this moment either. I was actually a groomsmen in my scUM buddies wedding that day. The wedding was set to commence only minutes after the end of the game. I remember being in a church in Chicago and all of us guys huddled around a radio listening. When the block happened, I was pretty sure the groom might throw up. Needless to say I had a HUGE grin on my face during that whole ceremony. He looked like he was going to a funeral and his wife (now ex) was none too happy with his demeanor.

Slightly off topic, but I was the best man in my friend's (UD/OSU grad) wedding on September 24, 1994, when THIS happened:

I've been trying to get all of the scUM fans in my Detroit office pumped up for this redemption game -- they're not buying in to this now being their biggest rival quite yet... I'm thinking about hanging a ton of pictures (i.e. post #915 from buckmouse) next week that make it seem like scUM believes this is a 'big time' / 'must win' / 'win it for Hart' / 'jump start the program' / 'back to glory' etc. type of game.

I'd be astonished if this wasn't a big game for them. After the shock and humiliation of that loss, if they aren't drooling for a chance to crush Appy State into the turf 90 to 0...just no way. They should require precious little prodding.

If I were on the Michigan staff, and I needed to fire up my team, I'd give them the "Redemption for 2007" stuff, too. But, in all seriousness, you can never take away from 2007. It happened. 100 years later, if Michigan has won 100 national championships and beat Appy State the next 200 times, 2007 still happened. You can't take it away.

Even if it turns out that all of Appy State's players were getting free tattoos and their season is vacated. I won't care - 34>32. It happened.
