Appalachian State is a combined 4-18 vs Division 1A schools since 1990.

All 4 of those wins came against Wake Forest which had an overall record of 66-115 during that time frame placing them at 99th overall in winning percentage for Division 1A.

That means App St went 4-6 against one of the worst programs in Div 1A and 0-12 vs everyone else. The worst team in the Big10 (Indiana) slots in at 92nd overall (7 spots above Wake).

Youngstown State's sole success was against Kent (4-3) the WORST 1A team before Buffalo got bumped up, Akron (4-1-1) & Ohio when they were both the dregs of the Div.

Having success against MAC bottom dwellers isn't equatable with being a mid-pack Big 10 team.

Actually competing in a major conference is a far cry from occasionally knocking off an opponent at the beginning of the year.

Mid pack teams like Minnesota, MSU & Purdue have better athletes and more depth (even bumping them up to 85 schollies) than either of the aforementioned programs and going against that greater talent & numbers for an entire season wears down even the best of teams.

A highly regarded team like PSU has struggled to keep it's conference record above the numbers you mentioned since joining.

Appalachian State ain't PSU.

I have no doubt that either program could manage to find success if moved up to 1A but neither has the components needed to beat Big 10 (or SEC, Big12, PAC10, Big East) schools on a regular basis. The benchmark for making the jump is Marshall. They wouldn't have 5-3 in the Big10 and had much better athletes than either App or YSU.

Now just for once put your money where your mouth is and support your own silly claims.

App State's record of even a few years ago is irrelevent. They've built up an exceptionally solid program, which they clearly showed yesterday. You say "Appalachian State ain't PSU." Well, you're right, and you know why? Because App State can actually beat Michigan in Ann Arbor. And they can beat just about any Big Ten on their field. Now, I wasn't saying they'd be at an Ohio State or Michigan type level, but they could hang in the conference just as well as teams like Purdue, Illinois, and Minnesota are currently. You think that App State couldn't--or wouldn't--beat an Indiana or Illinois or its home field? I'd put real money on App State beating Indiana by 2 TDs at App State.

You also say "Now just for once put your money where your mouth is and support your own silly claims." OK, just how do you propose we go about this? I think their win yesterday already proved my earlier "silly claim" that App State would give Michigan a hell of a game...what else is there to "put money on"? Let me know...please do.

This could be the year...Replythe streak ends.

Much will depend on how Michigan responds. Typically, 'M' rebounds well after a loss, but there are schematic issues that have to be resolved, and fast.

Not as concerned with the team psyche, though nothing is a given at this point, save for the first point above.

Are you going to PSU @ Mich this year?

Go BLUE. Always.

Yeah, they sure rebounded well from the last two losses.

Looks like one Michigan fan lost his mind yesterday and re-desigined his entire 'Go Blue' blog in pink with kittens:

Yes, this is what I'm doing to hold myself over until I can watch the OSU game... scrolling through the insanity of yesterday. LOL

My favorite coment from the blog:

These kittens are almost as funny as UM losing to the Mountaineers. Llloyd is definitely on the Hot, Hot, Hot seat.

And no matter what happens the rest of the year, you guys lost to a D-1AA school! That is the end all for any argument. Its like finding out your buddy hooked up with a tranny, they can never make fun of anyone you date again. Now UM fans can never, ever mock another team's fans for a defeat unless D-1 teams start losing to Mount Union.

In the earlier argument that Appalachian State could compete in the Big 10... I don't concur. The Big-10 went 8-3 yesterday. In a leauge of just teams that the Big-10 played yesterday, I don't think Appalachian State would finish in the top half.

Washington State
Missouri
UAB
Toledo
Bowling Green
Northern Illinois
Florida International
Youngstown State
Northeastern
Indiana State

5-5 at best

OK, I'll play along here. App State blew out YSU in the playoff semis last year, so there's a win. Northeastern was 5-6, 2-9, and 5-6 the last three seasons, so there's another win. Indiana State is a joke (0-11 and 1-11 the last two seasons), so there's win three. Florida International is another joke (0-12 last season, in the frickin' Sun Belt Conference no less). That's win number four. Now all they have to do is win just one game out of six against Washington State, Missouri, UAB, Toledo, Bowling Green, and Northern Illinois to make your "at best" 5-5. Somehow, after yesterday, that doesn't seem like much of a stretch. In fact, 2-4 or 3-3 in those six games is very reasonable.

App State is a mid-level I-A team that just happens to still be in I-AA...

This is good for recruiting.

"Ummm, so let me get this straight... you want to choose a school that lost to a D-1AA with only 63 schollie players rather than coming to Columbus and playing for 3 quarters at the beginning of the season up by 30?"

A question that is a little more realistic is, how do you think AS would stack up (this year) if in a mid major conf. like the MAC for example.
I think they could play in the MAC. There are some teams in the MAC that arent very good.
