What she means to say is that that particular boy will be in Honors while playing football at this great university we know about in Columbus. :biggrin:

Actually, that is true, he wants to be a vet. He also averaged 3 touchdowns, per game, last season. We're really banking on this one caring for us when we're old and decrepit.

Why are you heading there? I get down there 4-8 times per year. As some people here know I teach Tae Kwon Do, and our Grandmaster is the dean of the college of business.

Main employer is CSX, the state and Marshall University. You will see a wide variety of people with significantly different backgrounds.

One of the senior instructors lives on the other side of the bridge (the Ohio side) he has a pretty nice place.

The arena area has changed significantly in the last 5 years. It has an open air restaurant section that has everything from Japanese food to 5 Guys to Max and Erma's.

My wife was born and raised there (feel free to insert all the jokes now). It has been a while since I have spent any time there as she moved out of Huntington over a decade ago and the only reason to visit is to see her parents.

It is a nice small town (yes, it is a small town). The downtown area is not too bad and they have a small commercial area that was built by one of the guys who used to be connected to the group that did Easton.

My impression is there are really two kinds of people down there: educated and not. The people are very nice and if you spend time there you will get to know lots of them. There is quite a bit of money there, however, it is concentrated in pockets and is not flaunted, unlike Columbus.

I would encourage you to take a pretty laid back approach to the city and its people. Be polite because once they do not hear an accent they will be on alert (trust me, I experienced it).

I would not worry about learning Nascar or any of the other stereotypes. My in-laws hate that stuff and country music (although my wife likes country). Hell, I met more rednecks in my two years of grad school at OSU than I have in the 15 years I have been visiting Huntington.

August can be brutal down there with the heat and humidity. The area is prone to flooding (you will quickly learn multiple ways around town) in the summer. I do hope you like driving on curvy roads as that is all there is in the city. It is fun and keeps you awake.

Take advantage of the Marshall connection as that is the basis for everything down there.

Oh, the best part is you can still get Everclear in WV.

If you want specific information on places to live let me know. I can ask my in-laws for some tips.

:lol: No shit? Living in a city whose university population exceeds the city you've visited several times in a decade would lend itself to meeting more of pretty much any demographic.

Oddly enough, there is a Marshall Hall of Fame Cafe there run by the same people who ran the Buckeye Hall of Fame Cafe.

I say oddly, because IIRC the group is still run out of Columbus despite the failing of the Buckeye HOF cafe.

the Buckeye HOF Cafe is where we heard about Bo's passing oddly enough...

I hope whenever the economy turns back around something similar to that opens up. I always wanted to take my kids to it to show them the different trophies and whatnot.
