I heard somewhere today that a new refinery hasn't been built in the U.S. since the 1970's. Is that true? If so, don't you think someone would figure out a more efficient refining operation in the last 30 years?

You have to do ten years of environmental impact studies before you can build one these days. We've caused this problem ourselves. "Not in my backyard" costs money...

Oil reaches $110 a barrel - unreal. At what point do we pull our heads out of our asses and stop depending on a cartel for our oil? We have plenty of reserves, yet we find every silly reason in the world not to tap most of them.

Oh, that's right, we're going run our economy (and cars) on corn, solar panels, and windmills. Five dollars a gallon, coming this summer to a station near you. :shake:

It is not the oil cartel that is raising prices... it is the US Government raising the prices because of how they are treating the Dollar.

Inflation is a bitch ain't it?

I heard that the main cause for the spike in oil prices is all of the speculation being done - i.e. huge pension funds/investment groups buying up oil futures as an investment (or something like that).

I imagine we'll be hearing about continued record profits being recorded by the big oil corporations this year.

I don't know. Lets ask the people who claimed that war was for oil, shall we?

Well, "for oil" is a pretty broad phrase Scoot.

To get oil from Iraq for our purposes? Or to ensure that Saddam would not fuck with the Kuwaiti and Saudi Oil pipline, as that is "for oil" also?

But why don't we also ask the people who claimed that the war would pay for itself with Iraqi oil, as that has turned out so well for us?:tongue2:
