Anyone capable of discussing gas without politics? Anyone?

$2.25 for regular and $3.40 for diesel.

Just heard where Exxon had a 75% increases in profit this quarter. Made $9 billion in profit.

I'm guessing that's what the link above is referencing for I'm too lazy to open it.

I saw 2.09 for regular yesterday...and last week I saw 3.65 for diesel. When I saw 2.09 I thought to myself...Holy crap that's cheap! Then I realized that I was crazy for thinking 2.09 was cheap. And am not going to get all happy that gas is now 2.09. Let me know when gas is 1.50 or less. Then i'll be happy.

Living the rest of my life without happiness is going to suck.

EXXon was 10 Bill, Royal Dutch 9 Bill.

Our gas costs over the last three months - also BIG bills.

It is a disgrace, plain and simple.

Much of the drop in cost is presently spurred as much by capacity retrning as it is by the switch to Winter fuel blends. Simpler to make and less inventory complexity.

if americans were truly harmed by and upset with high gas prices, we would respond in kind. instead, we line up and buy gas just as when the prices were around a dollar. ironically, what may cause the price to drop is having the price increase. as with most markets and commodities, there are cycles. heck, gas would have to cost about $5.50 to $6 before it matched the high prices of gas in the late 70s, adjusting for inflation.

while i hate paying more for gas (of course, right?), i still spend money on trifles. most americans are simply being wise with the penny and foolish with the pound. we complain about the high price of gas, but we still buy new cars, lease at a greater overall expense, and largely discount the value of a car that is gas-efficient.

you can also hedge against the high cost of gas by... investing in those oil companies. you'll partially, if not completely, offset the price of gas if you invest in those companies that do well when the price is high. i've been licking my chops lately with valero (vlo). you gotta love options.

i remember watching a news piece about a month ago involving the high cost of gas. the reporter interviewed a lady at the supermarket. due to the extra cost of gas, she said that she was forced to discontinue buying for her young daughters toys and candy upon exit from the store. she had been doing that for awhile to offset the greater expenses. she said that if she could save a dollar here or there, the high cost of gas would not be as much of a burden. at the end of the piece, the camera panned to her car:

a brand new ford excursion

"payed"?

i'm not talking about anyone in specific -- just our population in general. i drive a honda accord that may run forever, so the cost of gas doesn't bother me that much. i don't put much into the car as it is.

i have four more payments until i'm done with my loan. finally.
