Any Runners? (10K or marathon)

Thanks for asking. I have gone from hating every single second to being addicted to it. Before Christmas I ditched the 10K for 5K, I will get to 10 but not until later in the year. I run 5k at least once a week, but right now I am more focused on increasing the slope and speed. Ran sprints a couple weeks ago and about DIED. Or at least it seemed like it the next day, my hamstrings were not happy at all. Will see how they are tomorrow and Monday after doing them again today. I at least have my fitness classes to help keep my legs stretched out and cross-conditioned.The weather needs to get warm and stay warm so I can do outside everyday. Don't know what my actual time is yet, and honestly don't care. I am so damn competitve I just keep pushing myself faster and faster. First race run I plan to do is in June but if anyone knows of a decent race in May (in Ohio) let me know. Want to do at least one a month for the summer and fall.
That's great to hear! I've been back to my running for 3 weeks now @ 3-4 days a week. I'm also shooting for a June 5K. If you live in the Central Ohio area Columbus Metro Parks has a series of runs through various parks, many of the runs are 5K's (some are 10K's)... here's the list of events. I'm looking at running the Glacier Ridge Metro Park race on June 30th.

Here are some sites with Ohio races:

I'm running my first 10k with my wife on memorial day weekend. It's called the Bolder Boulder and it's suposed to be one of the biggest races in the world.

My goal is simply to finish. On my feet.

At this point we've done a few 5 mile runs and are averaging around 14 miles per week...

How is the training going, FCollins? Are the two of you still running on Monday?

I signed up for a 5K this coming Saturday. Trained for the last month or so; we'll see if I can crack the 8:00 pace for the first time. I give myself about a 50/50 chance - my sprints have felt good, but I've labored to keep some of the longer runs up at a decent pace.

Unfortunately, I managed to end up with a fencing tournament that afternoon too, so my legs may be juuust a bit shot by day's end. :)

The training is going quite well! Two weeks ago we did a 6.2 mile run and we've been in the 4.2-5.5 range for our other two weekly runs. We're planning on running 6.2 tomorrow, a shorter 3.5 mile run on Friday then waiting for the big day! I'm getting excited...we have a very busy weekend though, what with a disc golf tourney on Saturday and a wedding on Sunday. Monday's 10k will put a damper on our wedding festivities, but such is life. :ohwell:

You fence, eh? How long have you been doing that? Are you in a club or something?

Yeah, morning runs tend to dampen the weekend evening festivities at times. :)

I am in a fencing club, yes. I took a couple classes at OSU and fenced on and off with the non-varsity club there for a couple years. Last year, I realized there was a club around the corner from our house, so I picked it back up again as a hobby. Every couple months, I try and do a tournament to remind myself how much better other people are than me. :p

Disc golf is fun, are you competitive at it to be in a tournament? I enjoy it, but am not any good.

Not really. My friend's folks layed out an 18 hole 'mountain' disc golf course on their 35 acre property northwest of Ft. Collins. It's a ton of fun, this is the 5th annual outing. It's about a 4-6 beer course. :p

Only 4-6? I think you've been training for the wrong event here. You need to get that up to about 8-10...

Which race did you sign up for? I'm shooting for a 5K on June 30th in Dublin (Glacier Ridge Metro Park):

I'm hoping to run 7:00-7:15 pace for this race. (21:45-22:28)

I'm doing the Vineyard LiveWell 5k in Reynoldsburg. Since I was going for a specific weekend, it was that or the Pet Promise run downtown. No offense to pet lovers, but dodging dogs and leashes during a race sounds like about the worst idea ever. :p

If I get really ambitious and recover well from the 5k, I might tag along with my wife to the Upper Arlington 5 miler on Monday. I ran that one a couple years ago, and it was a nice course.
