Anthony Cook (DB Texas Longhorns)

Yeah. Fans put a lot more thought into the impact of wins and losses on recruiting than recruits do. Recruits care about stability in the coaching staff more (among other things).

Fans (particularly ours) see a loss and think every recruit is going to bail.

Recruits also care a lot about immediate playing time(1-2yrs) and what school can get them prepared for the NFL(which is the end game, not college which is a pit stop for many)

Yeah well you do realize UT has 4 of the top 5 players in the state already verballed to the class right? The only one missing is Cook. And I didn't know the win-loss record of a first year coach was an absolute predictor for how a class shapes up.

I still like tOSU's chances but UT has made a big push and is the only legit threat IMO. That was my point.

Just pointing out the inconsistency in your post is all.

Urban Meyer makes final pitch to Anthony Cook; Emory Jones skips Alabama visit: Ohio State football recruiting

By Bill Landis, cleveland.com

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio State was once the clear favorite for five-star Texas cornerback Anthony Cook. It was a matter of when and not if the No. 2 corner in the country would join the Buckeyes' 2018 recruiting class.

That's changed a bit, and while it's not exactly time for Ohio State to panic, Urban Meyer didn't want to leave anything to chance.

So Meyer and defensive coordinator Greg Schiano visited Houston Lamar High School on Monday, cleveland.com confirmed, making what is likely their last in-person pitch to Cook before he makes his college decision on Oct. 30.

Cook is down to a final three of Ohio State, Texas and LSU. And though he's coming off an official visit to Baton Rouge last weekend, it's more like a two-team race between the Buckeyes and Longhorns. Meyer vs. Tom Herman.

Never underestimate the power of the Texas alums. The pressure this kid has to stay home is 10x what Carmen has (or a Spielman, etc) on his shoulders. The promise of a living after football (if do well), etc. is always there. Oil money talks, and has spoken since time out of mind. We all know Tom Herman is persuasive, and gained us the foothold into Texas in the first place. Also UFM is experiencing the Alabama syndrome, and that is doing so well recruiting, that every team can point to the 5*s ahead of you at your position. Having said that, UFM is realizing his promise to play younger players, and has largely been successful with it, so (and I applaud it), UFM cannot make promises of playing time, but 'the best person plays' kind of thing.

Hope the kid choses the Buckeyes to matriculate, but if not, hope he does well. He seems to have carried himself well during this courtship, and speaks of his honesty and honor. Go Bucks

Absolutely. Even though we lead for the majority of his recruitment, Herman is an outstanding recruiter in the in-state pressure in Texas is off the charts, so I always have been cautiously optimistic. I think we can still win out on this one, but it will certainly be tough.
