COLUMBUS, Ohio ? With temperatures expected to exceed 80 degrees Saturday, Jim Tressel, head coach of the Buckeyes, the Ohio State Department of Athletics and the University?s Office of Student Life, have invited OSU students to transform Ohio Stadium?s south stands into a beach-day atmosphere during the 2009 LifeSports Spring Football Game.

Buckeye students labored to class under gray skies, drizzle and temperatures falling short of 50 degrees Tuesday, making for a long-awaited upturn in the weather. Saturday, the students will have Ohio Stadium south stands to bask in the sunshine and take in not only the annual Scarlet and Gray football game ( about 1:30 p.m.), but also a conference championship deciding lacrosse match between the Buckeyes and longtime regional rival Notre Dame (11 a.m.).

For their dedication throughout the 2008-09 athletics season, Ohio State students can enjoy all the festivities on and off the field Saturday FOR FREE. To gain free admission to Ohio Stadium, students with valid Buck IDs can enter south stands through Gate 32 (open 10 a.m.).

Students that previously purchased tickets through the Ohio State Athletics Ticket Office for the lacrosse/football spring game - which share a $5 admission cost - can be issued refunds by calling 1-800-GoBucks.
Saturday festivities will include beach-themed music, games and prizes, while all students are asked to wear beach attire like Hawai?ian shirts, board shorts, sandals, etc.

D.L.
Jim Tressel poses with Ohio State students after the spring game draft today.

So it wasn't Pete Carroll relaxing in his swim trunks, but Jim Tressel showed off what he looks like at the beach today.

In a Buckeye Hawaiian shirt and sunglasses, Tressel promoted Saturday's Scarlet and Gray Game, when students are invited to enjoy a beach theme, with music, games and prizes, in the south stands.

Students can get in free, while tickets are $5 for other fans.

If you can't make the game, the Big Ten Network will air a condensed hour-long version of the game at 7 p.m. next Thursday. The game will also air live, for anyone outside the Columbus market, on www.10TV.com and www.ONNtv.com.

In other spring game specifics, members of the student Block O Association and the Ohio State wrestling team will be serving as the honorary coaches.

The game will be played with 12-minute quarters.

Luke Fickell is the head coach for the Gray team, joined by Taver Johnson, Jill Bollman and Nick Siciliano.

Paul Haynes is the head coach for the Scarlet team, joined by Darrell Hazell, Jim Heacock, Dick Tressel, Joe Daniels and John Peterson.

Ohio State football: Forget the gamble, Jim Tressel to let Terrelle Pryor get hit in spring game
by Doug Lesmerises
Wednesday April 22, 2009

Terrelle Pryor will wear the off-limits black jersey in the first quarter of Saturday's spring game, but then he'll be full-go when he plays in the second and fourth quarter.Good news for Ohio State fans.
Saturday's spring game will include a large dose of the real Terrelle Pryor.

OSU coach Jim Tressel said today that Pryor and No. 2 quarterback Joe Bauserman will each play three quarters in Saturday's game and will go "live" - meaning they can run with the ball and be tackled - in two of those three quarters. No. 3 quarterback, walkon Justin Siems, will play one quarter for each team and be live the whole way.

"It's a gamble, yeah" Tressel said of putting his star on the line. "But we need to get better. If we don't get better, that's a gamble as well."

Given those rules, and knowing that Pryor will be at his most dangerous, the Gray team took Pryor as the first pick in the team draft today, with Bauserman then assigned to the Scarlet team.

The spring game starts at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Ohio Stadium, with a men's lacrosse game between Ohio State and Notre Dame to be held before the football game at 11 a.m.

OSU football: Gray takes 'live' Pryor for spring game
Wednesday, April 22, 2009
By Tim May
THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

For starting quarterback Terrelle Pryor and his backup, Joe Bauserman, it will be Saturday Afternoon Live when Ohio State stages its spring game in Ohio Stadium.

When coach Jim Tressel revealed that his top two QBs would be in non-protected, full-contact mode for two quarters of the game, senior safety Kurt Coleman said it was a no-brainer for his Gray squad to make Pryor the No.1 pick in the annual player draft.

"Because he can make so many plays," Coleman said. "If he was going to be live for maybe one quarter or none, I think we were going to go offensive line first."

Instead, Tressel said his top two QBs would start the game in black "don't tackle" jerseys, then switch to their respective colors for their last two quarters of action. Walk-on Justin Siems will play a quarter for each team and be live throughout.

Tressel said he weighed the pluses and minuses of letting his quarterbacks face jeopardy, then opted to give them, in essence, half a game each in full-contact mode.

"You know what, the minute you don't go full speed, I think your chances for injuries go higher," Tressel said. "We need to be ready, and where there is risk there is reward, too. Maybe we'll step a little closer to being better if we go a little harder."

Remembering the way Pryor moved the first team offense to a touchdown with his scrambling feet and his passing arm on the final drive of last week's jersey scrimmage, the Gray jumped at acquiring him for a split-squad game that might dissolve into a backyard-type contest before it's over. Bauserman, more the pocket passer, became the property of the Scarlet.
